Lots of new and interesting studies are out that unfortunately no one shares here. It’s disappointing that the bird site is still the one that most academics prefer. Anyway, here’s one of the latest studies by Weihang Huang, Akira Murakami @mrkm_a, and Jack Grieve, that sounds very promising if you’re interested in Forensic Linguistics:

Corpus Linguistics has been a field that I’m very interested in lately as I find it very useful for conducting forensic linguistics studies. I still need a lot more training on the use of corpora, but here’s a great article on how corpus linguistics can be used for legal interpretation by Römer and Cunningham.

That feeling you get when your research paper is quoted with support in a PhD dissertation from - of all places - Liberty University.
What do you even call that feeling?

Continuing with #ForensicLinguistics reading “Language and Online Identities” (hope I’ll have time to finish today):

I got the book months ago. But I think now I am finally in the grounded enough headspace to start reading it

Came across this chapter on by Tim Grant - I loved the sophisticated theoretical discussion about the idea of idiolect and cognitive & stylistic frameworks!
Also, can I just say “4n6” is genius 😁 not going to spell the word any other way from now on

I’m also specifically tying to track down Roosa Rentola, who by all accounts used to work at the Polamk, but is not listed there as staff and I can’t locate her email…
I’m thinking of going to the Police College in person (it’s just next to me actually) and asking at the reception :)

A quick #introduction here:
I’m still trying to figure things out, but I’m glad I made the change to this platform. I’m a part-time lecturer and a linguist. Currently studying for my second MA in Forensic Linguistics. I’m interested in doing an online Ph.D in Linguistics so any recommendations will be highly appreciated!

Had a wonderful day full of guest lecturer goodness yesterday: Isabel @Forensiclinguist has kindly agreed to come to Tampere all the way from Alderney & deliver a research talk and even talk to our students about her career path afterwards!
What a fascinating life, improving the delivery of justice through the analysis of language! I already have scores of student emails with questions in my mailbox
