Orange Poppy

It’s just turned springtime in the southern hemisphere. I noticed the orange poppies in bloom for the first time earlier this week.

This is a water-soluble colored pencil painting of such a flower that I photographed in 2021. I completed the artwork in the next year.

If it looks a little strange to you, it’s because the flower is drawn as seen from beneath. It is almost like the view a small animal underneath the plant would have of it.

I’m not a children’s book author, but a story is beginning to form in my head about this scene.
