There are SO MANY FLAWS.
Here's one... How did Finn have a personality at all if he was so deeply indoctrinated and didn't even have a name? He is so casually normalized o not being a stormtrooper anymore, it feels weird. And how did he NOT get a name earlier? We saw in Clone Wars a culture of designations being turned into names, is that not the case with the conscripts?
And then there is the gifting of Finn's name to him, which removes so much of his own agency as a character (though does set up a potential romance arc which neve r got followed).

Wow, I forgot just how bad Force Awakens was. 😅
The sad thing is that I happily would have watched two hours of Rey running around Jakku eating bread. Definitely has all the normal flaws of J.J. 's stuff, but it's also just... Bad. Bad script. Meh directing.
Good acting though.

@mcnees Oh! And here's a scan of the scene from the DK Book "Star Wars: The Force Awakens- Visual Dictionary"! Notice them off to the right of the shot under the doorway. See how they match the McQuarrie illustration?
In the brief sequence, the proto-wookie approaches the Han-like character, they briefly square off as if to draw their guns on each other, then embrace in a welcome before the camera pans away to take in the rest of the bar patrons.

@mcnees Little known fact... In "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", JJ recreated one of McQuarrie's iconic illustrations of a wookie-like creature confronting an early draft of Han Solo on the streets of Mose Eisley.
I saw it being shot as part of the scene in Maz's castle and I was bummed it didn't make the final cut. It was such a great homage to the artist!

The biggest issue with Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy is that they started with the idea, "How do we sell more merch?" and built from there. Driven by accountants, not storytelling.

I got a message from Lee Towersy asking for a painting. Lee built a R2D2 for fun that ended up in Force Awakens and other films. He sent it out as his Christmas cards. A year later he sent me a crew hat from #andor and it made my life. Hope he sent the card to his castmates!
