I've had a good few days at #FOR2026 (https://opensciencestudies.eu/for-2026-conference/), where I was on a panel, saw a bunch of people I know, and met even more people I didn't know, and then went to the bi-monthly meeting of the Munich RSE #RSEng chapter followed by a nice dinner, and am now ready to go home

Reporting late from FOR 2026 conference day 2: I had the privilege (and the pressure) of joining the plenary panel on equity & justice in open research implementation. I tried to give voice to the Global South and Eastern Europe. I shared that it's time the established players step back and let us lead.

Paraphrasing @danielskatz: if we keep investing in open infrastructure but not in research we will end up with software no one is using. FOR 2026 plenary panel on the future of open research #FOR2026 #openscience

Someone from a large science publishers just put #diamondoa and transformative agreements side-to-side in a talk at #FOR2026. There was no love for this talk and a lot of enthusiasm for #DOA …

Great to see open education represented at FOR 2026 today! Rob Farrow presented the GO-GN, a network of PhD candidates around the world whose research projects include a focus on open education (i.e. OER, OEP, MOOC). https://go-gn.net/ #OpenResearch #OpenScience #OER #FOR2026 #OpenEducation

The fact that 10 years after @MsPhelps and I included equity in our working definition of #OpenScience in the form an 'open to participation' pillar (see https://im2punt0.wordpress.com/2017/03/27/defining-open-science-definitions/) we are now at #FOR2026 conference discussing how to include equity in OS means that this change moves at glacial speed and there may be strong incentives against it. One of these might be #universityrankings with their huge inbuilt colonial legacy.

At #FOR2026 yesterday, I learned from Carole Goble that
Trust (in another person or organization) can be defined as their:
(Credibility + Reliability + Intimacy) / Self-Orientation
which is from Cathrin Stöver - Chief Communications Officer GÉANT (and in turn, is from Charles H. Green)

Day one of FOR 2026 had my brain working overtime. New ideas, new terms, and finally meeting people I'd only known online.
Shared a bit more on LinkedIn 😊 https://www.linkedin.com/posts/alelazic_for2026-openscience-openresearch-activity-7457150423401938944-ppaC

Open Science Taxonomy, another great #FOR2026 find. 😍

I learned about OpenREL (Rights Expression Languages for Open Science, https://www.openaire.eu/community/blogs/highlights-from-osfair-2025-openrel-and-the-future-of-rights-in-open-science) at #FOR2026. I also learned, while searching for this, about a subreddit that shares the same name but has a very different meaning and NSFW content 🙂

Amazing to hear from Vaska Leshoska today at the Future of Open Research conference about RISE-Open, a grassroots effort opening up psychological instruments & resources for Macedonian students & researchers. Nice to see the vibes of our Serbian REPOPSI (2020-) spreading across the region. 😍 #FOR2026 #OpenScience #REPOPSI

It's interesting to me that no one yet (of the first 5 speakers at #FOR2026, a conference on open research) has provided a link to their slides. There's a bunch of interesting things here, but it's hard to follow-up on non-published (non-open?) slides

During #FOR2026, I learned that I should read "Thinking like a business: Reconfiguring relationships to sustain open data infrastructures" by Kathleen Gregory and Dorothea Strecker (https://arxiv.org/abs/2604.27580), which takes a political economy-based look at Dryad

I'm here for #FOR2026 as well - it's just starting and is already interesting in terms of the framing and the upcoming talks.

At the Future of Open Research conference, sponging up ideas for concrete action.
ResearchEquals creates spaces for experimental forms of research, which informs new policies. Since our inception, this has popularised the notion of more diverse outputs.

Hello 👋 Next week I'll be in Munich for the FOR 2026 Conference, speaking on a panel on equity and justice in open research. If you're attending or around those parts, I'd love to connect!

We’re excited to share that the LMU Open Science Center (OSC) will be presenting a poster at #FOR2026Munich - The Future of Open Research: Reliable, Responsible, Equitable. Happening from May 4 to 6, 2026, at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Technical University of Munich (https://opensciencestudies.eu/for-2026-conference/)
Our poster can be viewed and downloaded here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19626906. It highlights our efforts to embed open research practices at LMU Munich and beyond through a multi-angle approach.
We focus on two key initiatives:
- Switch-to-Open: a structured training and consultation program that helps research groups integrate open research practices across the full project lifecycle, from planning and data management to reproducible analysis and FAIR sharing.
- Train-the-Trainer: a program designed to equip researchers and research support staff with the pedagogical skills needed to teach and advocate for Open Research practices and tools within their own communities. These initiatives are built on a broader foundation of accessible learning opportunities, including:
📚 A free self-learning catalog of online tutorials and lecture recordings (https://www.osc.lmu.de/training/self-learning.html)
🎓 Regular workshops throughout the year
☀️ Our annual Open Science Summer School (https://lmu-osc.github.io/Open-Science-Summer-School-2026/)Together, these initiatives aim to make open research practices more practical, scalable, and sustainable across disciplines.
If you’re attending #FOR2026Munich, feel free to stop by and chat with us about training, institutional change, and building cultures of openness in research!

Is anyone else here going to attend the #FOR2026 „The Future of Open Research. Reliable, Equitable, Responsible“ Conference in Munich? The program looks very interesting. A lot of #OpenScience practitioners and visionaries but also critics, accounts from the #ScienceStudies etc.
I am already getting hyped.
