  1. From one tomato plant (variety unknown) & 2 cucumber plants. And this was only some of it!

Helped I was given a greenhouse, but otherwise it didn't need much effort, or compost, or anything really. Apart from water, did use quite a bit of that.

  2. Amazing what we can grow food in sometimes.
I once accidentally, but successfully, grew a single decent sized carrot in an old boot full of compost (now hosting geraniums).
Didn't expect anyone else to eat it, which I was v glad about cos it tasted really nice! (It was my boot 😂)

  3. This critter is one of my pet flea beetle (chrysomelidae?) thats bin eating my salad leaves. They ping off impressively like fleas.
I let the soil get too dry & now there's loads of them 🙄. It was fine before that. Must remember not to let it dry out so much next time, whether inside or out!! Still glad I collected & planted all those seeds though. And I don't think the cabbage white butterflies like these land cress 😊

  4. 5ish days after planting the land cress (Brabarea Verna?) seeds I harvested from my 2 scrawney plants are doing well! Admittedly in a greenhouse 🤗.
I'll need to keep them damp to keep the flea beatle at bay. Lots of those this year with the dry weather.

Just as well as the other salad I was eating (from my seeds) got a bit invaded by cabbage white butterfly caterpillars.
I now know that covering them with a hole free not-very-net curtain wasn't enough. So I need another plan with that one!!

  6. Land cress (looks & tastes like watercress) seeds ready to be harvested! Not much soil or water required to grow these & only a small pot 😀!
Great salad source of dietary iron 🤗 esp if consumed with a vit C in a nice glass of orange juice 🤸‍♂️

  7. The salad seedlings are doing well!
    Good germination rate!
100% homegrown mixed salad seeds collected & sorted by myself, in small spaces of time.
Grown in an old wooden draw, filled with a mix of ordinary garden soil & peat free compost.

Israel is a major supplier of commercial seeds. Another reason to buy less of those!

  8. @gardening Finally starting to see my #potatoes with some stems coming up sizably from the ground, which means it's past time to plant the rest of them. #FoodGrowing #Gardening

  9. Hooray! After 4 years on the waiting list we have an #allotment and it is really lovely. We are fortunate that the previous tenants have left a quirky shed, a large fruit cage and a well structured plot. It's going to need lots of organic matter as it doesn't look particularly well cultivated and there's a fair amount of wasted space. Looking forward to putting our stamp on it. It is 5 minutes from home and near a national cycle route. #foodgrowing #slowliving #selfsufficiency #allotmentlife

  10. The struggles for farmers are not new and not confined to one region, but this is a heartbreaking story of the mental health issues of US Northeast farmers as they strive to make it through the year.

  12. It's a wet and chilly day so I have been planning what to grown on our city terrace next year. I will order seeds after Christmas and start growing them in early January. I have a Jasmine and Clematis on order.

  13. Does anyone have resources on multilingual, intergenerational, community food gardening? With limited resources to pay for interpreters, any guides, tool kits, curricula, or just plain stories and suggestions based on experience would be very valued!
