Another day of hithering and thithering. Met up with Jeff Stewart of Food Day Canada to chat about this year's festivities (SO AWESOME). Also talked about local food, international foodways, third culture cuisine, and jellies and jams.
Did all this in the very lovely Whoopsiedaisy Drinks over a slice tahini-sesame cake and a flat white. Will be back.

Today, with the help of my hungry handsome husband, I sampled food from the Oromian, Scandinavian. Palestinian, Indonesian, Sudanese, Nigerian, Croatian and Israeli pavilions. Below, is my own personal favourite savoury dish of the festival this year - a whole crispy fried fish, nose to tail, smothered in hot spices. Absolutely, outrageously delicious. Today is the first official Food Day Canada. It’s been celebrated for years, but Parliament recently passed a bill, sponsored by my Senate colleague, Rob Black, to make it a “real” national day. As a former journalist, I’m pretty cynical about official “days”. But I’ll be gleefully celebrating Food Day Canada at the Edmonton Heritage Festival, Canada’s greatest celebration of food.
