  1. CASE STUDY: THREE CUSTOM FONTS FOR ONE OF GERMANY’S LARGEST INSURANCE COMPANIES

We are so proud of this project and deeply inspired by the exceptionally great collaboration. When a client embodies its brand values as R+V does, translating them into design criteria comes easily.

Not only is it the biggest custom job we’ve done to date, it’s also our most detailed case study, giving you an insider insight to initial sketches, iterations and an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek as to how this type of collaboration works:

  2. Neue DIN now speaks Thai, Cyrillic, Greek

Back in January, we welcomed Italics and Retalics to Neue DIN. With huge thanks to Oleksandr Parkhomovskyy 🇺🇦 (with support from Eugene Yukechev 🇷🇺), Irene Vlachou 🇬🇷, and Boom Promphan Suksumek 🇹🇭, we’ve just expanded the typeface to include three brand new alphabets: Cyrillic, Greek, and — for the first time in a DIN typeface — Thai (in the Loopless variant). All three scripts support the whopping 243 static fonts, or for those who prefer a more manageable approach, the single variable font also supports the new languages.

  3. Neue DIN breaks new ground again with Italic & Retalic.

Despite the large size of Neue DIN, italics were missing. Not only because we wanted to design them with care, we also wanted to break new ground when it comes to something natural as italics. So we added not ‘only’ the 81 normal oblique fonts, but also the same number of backslanted variants. These Retalics offer novel possibilities in display contexts, for example.

This update increases the number of static fonts to a whopping 243. For those who prefer a more manageable approach, the variable font has been given a third axis for slanting in both directions. This one is especially fun. Try it out for yourself: fontwerk.com/fonts/neue-din

  10. Last week was #Berlinale week, the International Film Festival that arrives once a year in our hometown, Berlin. This year, alongside mega stars such as Tilda Swinton, Robert Pattinson and Timothée Chalamet, our very own Pangea made its debut on the film scene.

Pangea Condensed – which was only released last summer – features on both the poster and the lead visual and we absolutely love how it looks!

  11. Seeing our #Fontwerk #fontsinuse really does make us smile. In this latest in-use case, Neue DIN helps Baugenossenschaft Zuffenhausen eG forge a new identity.

They recently looked to SCOPE, an interdisciplinary agency for architecture and interior design based in Stuttgart, to help them revamp and modernize their image.

The brand new BGZ logo features the semibold variant of Neue DIN XWide and it is also used as the #CorporateFont.

  13. Something Nice is cooking. ❡

We are super excited to share a little sneak peek of Nice Sans, which will complement Jan Fromm’s serif superfamily Nice, very erm, nicely indeed (see what we did there ;) Jan is hard at work tinkering away on the design and we are so excited by how it’s coming along.

This ‘Grotesk’ iteration of Nice will, like the Serif, be available in four optical sizes: Poster, Headline, Text and Micro and we plan to launch it in early 2025.
