Generally one of the forms maps most closely to what we write with our habd and paper. These forms are oftem more acceptable to people with complex cognitive needs. This includes children learning to write in a Latin Language.

For neurotypical adults, there is some evidence that common alternatives, for example this storied "a" are more readable

I expected to see HITBOX. So i did see that, i even heard it when i read the sign to myself. It took several looks before i noticed HIITBOX. I think this is one of my favourite signs because of some of its unique qualities, especially since some of those qualities are associated with poor quality - that B ouch! The teeth in the O - ouch!!!!! And especially because of the stylistic decoration on the bottom left

This letterer has used thr Gestalt visual principle of continuity to give the impression of each letterbeing layered on a different coloured version of itself white on red on pink) creating a 3D effect. Very cool!

This is fun, and i suspect inspired by some classical carving or architecture technique.

Jane Laundromat in Greenwich village has a very striking typeface for Laundromat. It has lovely curves on all the corners of the letters and the terminals are squared off like cutting a ribbon. I cant work out the logic for when an angle is a curve, and when it is rounded. Does this break some rules? The relationship between N M and U is interesting

I dont (yet) have the language to effectively describe this typeface succinctly. I found the curves on the N, M, and A very beautiful and fascinating. Its on the Ferry from Battery park (Manhattan) to Govenors Island. The ferry interior decor looks circa 1930's. I wonder if this type design is from that era. I'll try to describe it using hashtags:

I like how this follows the runic style of letter form - could be created with a set of axe cuts, yet still hints at curves with the slight angle on the horizontal H line and 4 small axe-strokes for the O
