My readthrough of Fontaine Fox's Toonerville cartoons brought me to 1921 and an odd bit of branching out: The Goose Crick Steamboat auditioning for the cavalcade of comedy public transport.
Historical spoiler: the Toonerville stamp only had a trolley. At some point, the steamboat got dry-docked.

"How do you GET that way?" Yeah, that's something you could ask.
Those marks (scratches?) on her face make her look almost wistful and sad, as if she's on the brink of cracking the code of the between-the-wars gender norms that she would otherwise cheerfully ignore.

Something struck me in an odd place about this one. It's almost like #TomboyTaylor isn't even angry at the kid, just deeply disappointed.
