Fonda Lee is a Canadian-American author of speculative fiction, best known for the Green Bone Saga, beginning with the World Fantasy Award-winning Jade City. A black belt martial artist, she also writes SF including the YA novel Zeroboxer. Her work earned Hugo and Nebula nominations and a Locus Award win.

There's no reason for me to like #fondalee 's "jade" Trilogy as much as I do.
I'm about a quarter of the way through the second book, #jadewar and I can't put it down.
It's a Yakuza -type urban fantasy for lack of a better description. The kind of thing that would not interest me too much.
But she writes really, REALLY well.

As I said, #FondaLee takes a while to build momentum in the first two volumes. In #JadeLegacy, she finally lets her hellhounds right off the leash. Her #GreenBone saga just catapulted onto my list of favorite #fantasy #books next to Martin’s #ASoIaF 1-3. I still have half a book to go, my gosh!

#FondaLee takes a while to build momentum in #JadeWar too, but then ..! My goodness, what a second half and "resolution". I will definitely continue, next stop: #JadeLegacy No idea why no one is making this unique series into a movie. #Sopranos meets #GoT meets #KungFuHustle? Ok, not so funny…

I finished Jade City by #FondaLee but it didn't work for me like it has for many others. I found the pacing uneven and there were too many characters I didn't care about. After forcing my way through the final 100 pages, I needed something different, something decidedly fun.

So I returned to #Murderbot's third entry, Rogue Protocol by @marthawells. Once again, it was great, it was fun and I learnt a lot about humanness from an antisocial bot.

I struggled to commit to #FondaLee's #JadeCity, so I swapped it for the #AfricaRisen anthology and it's amazing right out of the gate. The second story by #WCDunlap is, as aptly described by the author, a "witchy reimagining of the March on Washington". #AmReading #SFF #Books #Bookstodon
