James Russel Miller, Pennsylvanian Presybterian pastor and publisher, on 2 Co 8. He says a grasping, covetous, miserly Christian is a misnomer, not the kind of follower that Christ is looking for. In the same passage he quotes a priest who says he never had anyone come to confession admitting to covetousness.
Would anyone have any admonition about covetousness today?
How can you help those in famine?

To "see," is to have the truth.
John 9:41 "Jesus said unto them, If you were blind, you would have no sin: but now you say, We see; and so your sin remains."
In the beginning, Adam and Eve didn't know they were naked. Like children, they were blind to sin. Once sin opened their eyes, that changed. With the knowledge of their nakedness, they also became responsible for staying clothed. They would have needed to replace their fig-leaves daily, if not for God's intervention. He gave them garments of skin and clothed them. They only needed to keep them on. (Genesis 3:21) This reminds me of the daily sacrifice in the temple. God intervened for us through the sacrifice made by our Savior, Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:5) We can wear our "robe of righteousness," if we will daily "put on Christ," and let Him work through us. (Romans 6:4-6, Romans 13:8-14, Philippians 1:21)
Jesus' words in John 9:41 are summed up in James 4:17 "To the one who knows what is good, and does not do it, to him, it is sin." (1 Samuel 3:13)
When we covenant with God, we're dedicated to keeping our eyes on Him and one another. (James 1:27, Proverbs 19:17) Scripture shows us the blessing it is to have God's eye on us. (Psalm 32:8, Psalm 33:18, Psalm 34:15, Ezra 5:5, 2 Chronicles 16:9, 1 Peter 3:12)
We're also blessed to keep our eyes toward Him and His covenant. We do this by reading the Bible. We learn to become like Him by observing how to follow in Jesus' footsteps. When we're on God's path of love, we can trust Him to meet our needs, both temporary and eternal. (Psalm 5:3, Psalm 121:1-2, 2 Chronicles 20:12, Psalm 141:8, Psalm 86:11)
The Jews have many ways to keep their covenant with God in view. What guideposts have you set up to keep you on God's path? May we keep our Father's lovingkindness before our eyes, so we can walk in His truth. (Psalm 26:3)
