This is a very personal post, so only read on if you don’t mind.

Two years ago, exactly on my birthday, I was airlifted to hospital after severely burning large parts of my hands and legs with hot oil. Healing and recovery took months.

Tomorrow is my birthday again. And it so happens that exactly tomorrow I will be sending out my first tea packages through the small online shop I just opened a few weeks ago...

Yours truly in action during one of my herring spawn photo tours in early March. You can tell how much I love my work. I am always happy to meet photographers from around the world and show them some of my favourite places for nature photography on Vancouver Island. This is my dream job.

Many years ago, I took this photo of a gull trying to steal a herring from a Steller sea lion during the herring spawn.

I won First Place and Best in Show at the Canadian Armed Forces Imagery Contest for this shot and it encouraged me to follow my dream and become a full-time nature photographer. Although I've made a lot of sacrifices along the way, I no longer have a steady income and I can't afford to ever retire, I have no regrets.
