  1. Better late than never so... my #FolktaleWeek2025 entries all gathered together, telling the story of the night the Princess Moon learned how to swim.

  2. #FolkTaleWeek Day 6: Storm

    5. "Come get me, my Sisters!" the little Fallen Star calls.
A storm of bright light transforms the night sky.
Fallen Star, charm in hand, repeats the spell she's uncovered.
Soon, the Princess Moon will join them, swimming, diving, & splashing the hours away.

  3. There’s always a lot of magic submissions and it’s open to all. Post your work during November 17 to 23 and tag it with #folktaleWeek #FolktaleWeek25 so we can see and share what everyone has created. 4. Here's my image inspired by the #FolktaleWeek prompt word, "Gate".

I thought about making it a picket fence with a gate, but they weren't popular until about a century after the period I'm setting my story in.

They were originally wooden tree trunk pikes. Yoicks. Brings whole new meaning to "good fences make good neighbors".

But then settled for a more magical mysterious sort of portal gate. It helped me imagine my variation of the Little Red tale in that sort of setting. Not sure this ultimately would end up being used, but it was a great exercise!

  5. It got too fiddly to post the text each day here but you can read the full story of The Boy And The Swan over on my website now:

  6. #FolktaleWeek #Illusion
Stories are a bit divided on how tanuki disguise themselves. Some claim they are expert shapeshifters. Some claim they are expert illusionists. Others fall somewhere in the middle- tanuki can shapeshift but they use a bit of a glamour to improve their disguise.

  7. I don't think this actually works for #folktaleweek since it was over last week and I never read up on how to actually do it...

But it reminds me of the night I went camping with my dad specifically to watch a meteor shower that was projected in our area. It wasn't a constant stream of falling stars, but there were about 50 or so that night before we finally fell asleep. Well worth the trip!

  8. There was village that was plagued by a #wyrm. It would come out and attack their livestock.

The villager had enough & collected the blood from hogs that they had just slaughtered and mixed it with white sand. They left out the sand to placate the wyrm and watched it eat.

The sand hardened inside the beast and the villagers were able to kill it.

To this day, there is a cliff of coloured sand: reds and yellows from the killed wyrm.

  9. The #CunningFolk know that when the Sea Crone stirs all should listen. She is powerful and wise and the words she whispers should be listened to. Pity the man who ignores the crone for his fate is sealed & lost to the sea.

#Folklore says that she answers to no one, even the old gods of water let her be.
