In the traditional calendar the 10th month is known as 'Kannazuki' (神無月), which nowadays has come mean 'Month Without Gods'.
Because the gods are said to gather at Izumo-taisha, in Izumo Province the 10th month was called 'Kamiarizuki' (神有月 'Month With Gods').

St Bartholomew's Hospital in the City of London once had an especially spooky lift. At night, whatever number floor the passenger pressed, it would always take them down to the basement. There it would stand in the dark, refusing to move, no matter which buttons were pushed. The passenger would have to get out and start the long climb up the stairs to whichever floor they required. The lift would then whirr into motion and follow its ex-passenger as they trudged up the staircase. The hospital folklore blamed this on the fact a nurse had once been murdered by a patient in the basement. However, there is no record of any such crime. This story was probably created in an attempt to explain the lift's weird behaviour. #gothic #ghosts #paranormal #folkore #weird #London #history

One of London's strangest statues - thought to depict Alfred the Great - can be seen in Trinity Church Square, Southwark. The top part - depicting a crowned, bearded man - could have been made in the late 18th century for the garden of Carlton House, Westminster. The bottom half, however, is likely from a Roman statue of the goddess Minerva & is dated to 80-130 AD. It is thought to have stood in a sanctuary on the site of nearby Tabard Square. The bottom part is of Bath stone, probably brought down the Thames from the Cotswolds. The upper part is of Coade stone, an artificial stone invented in the 1770s. Why do witches steal babies? They're recruiting psionic kids for their cult. (The rules don't set a minimum age for when psionics activate, so the DM can totally put scary psionic babies in the game!)

Early days of sewing a genevois folkloric costume to wear when I am singing with my yodel choir, aided by an expert: the "costume genevois de la semaine" i.e. workwear for 19th Century peasant ladies reimagined in the 1930s! Geneva only joined 🇨🇭 in the early 19th C & was largely urban, so there wasn't a continued tradition of standardised local clothing.
