  1. "Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)" (or "#TheMightyQuinn (Quinn the #Eskimo)") is a #folkrock song written and first recorded by #BobDylan in 1967 during #TheBasementTapes sessions. The song's first release was in January 1968 as "Mighty Quinn" in a version by the British band #ManfredMann, which became a great success. It has been recorded by a number of performers, often under the "Mighty Quinn" title. The subject of the song is the arrival of Quinn (an Eskimo).

  5. An Unofficial Anthem: Spirit of the West

While they had a long and celebrated career, Vancouver's Spirit of the West is immortalized by one song: 'Home for a Rest.' This frantic, Celtic-infused folk-rock tune became an unofficial national anthem, a guaranteed floor-filler at university pubs, weddings, and parties from coast to coast since its release in 1990. #Canada #SpiritoftheWest #HomeforaRest #FolkRock 🇨🇦

  6. 🇩🇰 Gasolin' "Efter endnu en dag" – 1976

Produced by Roy Thomas Baker who also produced Queen. A mature and expansive album that captures Gasolin’ at their creative peak. The sound blends rock, folk influences, and more atmospheric, almost progressive elements, resulting in a record that feels both grounded and ambitious...

    Joel Julian - [DIS]COMFORT

"Through melody and dissonance, [DIS]COMFORT explores themes of habitual struggles, circular thinking, the paradox of finding comfort in that which is ultimately self-destructive, and the faint hope of light just above the surface."

  8. Having a great time rooting around in my bookmarks today. Thrasher is an Inuk singer-songwriter, recorded this debut in the 70s that was then re-reissued by Light in the Attic in 2015 following the interest in the compilation they had released the previous year, Native North America (Vol. 1): Aboriginal Folk, Rock, and Country 1966-1985. I have the comp queued up next...

  10. Crucial Track for April 29, 2026: "Mary Mac" by Carbon Leaf

#CrucialTracks 🎶 Today's prompt: A song from the last gig you went to.

Usually, Carbon Leaf *might* play Mary Mac as an encore; on New Year's Eve, they played it in the middle of their main set.

    #Honk - "Circles In Sand" (20th Century Records, 1973)

My favourite Orange County, CA band of all time. They beat any punker band you wanna point to with a beautifully jazz inflected, hippie-as-surf sound. Singer/songwriter #RichardStekol was the nominal leader, but across 3 great albums they showed that every member could write, sing, and play their ass off - including singer #BethFitchetWood, who still performs these songs around Laguna Beach today.

  12. Argus

April 28, 1972. Andy Powell and Ted Turner's twin lead guitars.  Life was never the same again. That "prog folk-rock" sound and the blending of medieval lyrics combined with those twin lead guitars still make a head swim. #wishboneash #argus #70srock #rock #rockmusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #andypowell #folkrock #hardrock #progreock #tedturner

  13. Wüstenberg – The King’s Gambit
    (Folk Rock / Wüstenberg Records)
    by Martin B. Wagner
