  1. This is why I love #linux. I've been fighting audio issues with my church's #windows10 #zoom computer for over a month. It was mostly likely a driver / driver API breaking after a windows update. In under 1 hour, I installed #linuxmint and installed zoom and configured it to use our #focusrite Scarlett Solo and our #Guermok usb #HDMI capture stick. No more issues.

  3. Endlich, endlich spielt es! Hat noch mal einiges an Zeit und Gedankenarbeit gebraucht. Nun steht dem Komplettimstieg auf LINUX kaum noch was im Wege. #linux #ubuntu #focusrite #audio

  4. Updating Focusrite Scarlett Firmware On Linux

    If you have a Focusrite Scarlett 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Gen audio interface and you want to update the firmware on Linux, you might find yourself scratching your head.

  7. Digital audio myth debunked here with evidence in physics mathematics and chemistry. The chemical makeup of the vinyl record has influence on the physics and the mathematics of what your stylus and cardridge (moving magnet / moving coil) will pickup.

    Be amazed at the fact that the signal remains smooth when going through AD DA conversion all the way up to the Nyquist frequency

  9. Analog and digital have gotten married since the 1980's when we analyze the Vinyl Signal path.

    My current signal path
    * Vinyl Direct Drive Turntable to mix.
    * Audio Interface3 to mix.
    * Always on HW Music player to mix.
    * Instrument Mixer
    * Yamaha Mixing Console
    * AUX0 send FX Rack
    * AUX1 send FX Rack
    * AUX0 Return Master Bus
    * AUX1 Return Master Bus
    * Mixing Console to Headphone AMP0
    * Mixing Console to Headphone AMP1
    * Mixing Console to Digitizer send
    * DAW receive

    You can clearly see a mix of digital and analog equipment in my Studio hardware setup, which IS mostly analog on purpose

    Vinyl has crucial digital equipment in its signal path of production. Without it your records would sound terrible. SO get over it, you need digital even as an Analog purist

  11. (edit: solved, see thread)

    I have the weirdest situation. I use an UMC1820 with a Focusrite Octopre MKII Dynamic.
    Both worked together under Linux, until they didn't: The Locked light wasn't shining anymore and no signal came from the pre.
    I connected the interface to a Win PC, also, no Locked LED and no sound from the pre.
    But: When I set the Focusrite to Internal clock and the UMC to OpticalIn so that the pre gives the clock to the UMC, then the devices are locked and I get sound from the pre to my DAW.

  13. So I finally got some new hardware for my homestudio.

    I switched to a #Focusrite Clarett+ 8Pre USB audio interface. So far things are running really smooth. The "ALSA Scarlett Control Panel" (github.com/geoffreybennett/als) is an amazing piece of software. It allows me to control the internal mixer, and all other features, I otherwise wouldn't have any access to. (1/3)

  15. Massive round of improvements to SessionMixer!

    High level cue mixes now working. Supports multiple cue mixes. New topology and session frameworks internally. Routing manipulation via buttons (see "mute" button).

    See the attached screenshot and config. That simple config turns into a tidy little cue mix!

  17. Dreaming of a new & affordable multichannel audio interface?
    Using a loopback test (DA to AD recording trusted/high end mastered reference audio) on a Focusrite Scarlett 18i16 doesn't reveal much glory. In direct comparison to a Lavry Blue DA and a Macbook Pro 2024 output we hear a narrow stage, resolution losses, a general unopen and intransparent sound with unnecessary emphasis on bass and presence bands. Little orientation and transparency all over the mids. Control software lacks central features (channel separation, phase reverse, routing flexibility).
    Sadly such equipment will misguide your ears into making severe mixing mistakes. Mastering is simply impossible.
    My tip: Do NOT use. I'll get my money back.
    Pro Tip: Get yourself a used RME Fireface UCX or UC for the same money or less - much broader functionality at smaller form factor an at least ensuring an OK-neutral upper middle-class decision base for audio work. (Do not use the mic pres, though, line ins sound better)

  18. I never thought the evening would come, but I have gone back to #Focusrite (#Scarlett 18i20 4th Gen) as an audio interface. After years of battling with my #MOTU Lp32, and its tendency for occasional channel swapping and bit crushing, I have tossed the unit into the #garbage. Thanks to this software: github.com/geoffreybennett, with only a few modifications, I have 16 ADAT channels and 10 other "conventional" ones working under #ArchLinux. Excellent.

    A warning to all: Do not use MOTU with Linux.

  20. The Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 for the big studio arrived today. After prototyping with a 16i16 (a smaller version of the same audio interface) in my second room... getting the big system working took me less than 15 minutes.

    It's going to be awesome! Might be a few limitations around using both ADAT pairs that I need to figure out. But otherwise, this should work really well. Looking forward to getting real music made.

  23. I'm fighting with latency when using the #Focusrite #Scarlett 4thGen 2i2, connected to my Windows 10 LTSC PC. Specifically, I have connected a headphone to the output of the Scarlett, but I can clearly hear my NVDA (Screenreader) having more latency than before. When I disable safe mode and change the buffer size to 16, that is acceptable, but the Focusrite software automatically bumps the buffer size back to 192, and I don't know what I could do about it. Maybe it's just a getting used to thing, but I expected better from an Audio Interface. Does anyone have suggestions?
    Maybe @ToniBarth?

  25. I have finally snapped and my new audio interface is on its way to me 🙈
    Time to say goodbye to my dated Focusrite 2i2 1st gen, your almost 15 years old at this point
    😭 I made all of my productions to this date with jt 🥹 Good times, good times, thank you ❤️
