This was fun! I completed the current Polish #fmt challenge, so I'm now a member of an elite club of eight nerds 😁 .

I did this QRP style: No GPS, no fancy oscillator. Just my rig, my computer, and the internet for time (via plain NTP). Plus a whole bunch of excellent FLOSS: scipy & friends. Analyzing hours of RWM recordings helped to learn stuff and calibrate things.

With that gear, my frequency was -0.113 Hz off, my PPS offset 1.2 ms, and my pulselength -1.0 ms.

Measure the frequency of incoming shortwave signals with better than 1 Hz precision - just because you can. This, twice a year, has been and still is the ARRL's "Frequency Measurment Test" #FMT .

Now a Polish team presents its version, with timing measurement challenges added to the fun. They transmit this coming Friday, February 13, at 10, 16, 19, 21 UTC on different #hamradio bands.

A #hamRadio operator sends a signal of precisely known frequency. Others receive and measure that frequency, in a friendly competition for precision. That's the "#FMT", the "frequency measurement test".

It is done twice a year, next April 18 ("Good Friday" in the Christian calendar), starting 2:30 UTC, with 2xTX on 40 and on 80 m each. Details https://fmt.arrl.org/ , which also links tips how to measure.

В этой статье речь пойдёт о повышении скорости компиляции библиотеки {fmt} до уровня библиотеки ввода-вывода Cи stdio . Дня начала немного теории. {fmt} – это популярная открытая библиотека С++, представляющая более эффективную альтернативу С++ библиотеке iostreams и библиотеке Си stdio . Последнюю она обошла по целому ряду аспектов: Безопасность типов с проверками форматирующих строк во время компиляции . Эти проверки включены по умолчанию начиная с С++ 20, и присутствуют в качестве дополнения для С++ 14/17. Форматирующие строки среды выполнения в {fmt} также оказываются безопасными, чего невозможно достичь в printf . Расширяемость . Определяемый пользователем тип можно сделать форматируемым . При этом большинство типов стандартных библиотек, например, контейнеры и пакеты для обработки даты и времени, предлагают возможность форматирования изначально. Производительность . {fmt} намного быстрее любой распространённой реализации printf , порой на несколько порядков (например, в форматировании чисел с плавающей запятой ). Возможность переноса поддержки Unicode . Тем не менее одной из областей, в которой stdio по-прежнему опережала {fmt} , являлось время компиляции.

For all their bullshit the right does pick up on some weirdo cultural trend that I think they are correct about every now and then.

I think the idea of consuming human breast milk later in life is going to be the cure to a lot of the #microbiome issues that our society is having now. It obviously needs to be tested for pathogens because those can be transferred but what is considered a healthy microbiome largely consists of that which is transplanted during birth and via breast milk.

We know that specific strains which are plentiful in youth such as #Bifidobacterium decline to make up only about 10% of the microbiome in late 20s and nearly die off completely by 30s. We also know that specific #Lactobacillus strains such as lactobacillus reuteri have declined on the whole since the 90s in US populations both of which are found in breast milk.

We are likely going to find that colonization of the gut requires an entire ecostystem and this is likely why #probiotics on the whole are not useful for altering the micrbiome long term. Breast milk which includes a diverse ecosystem of microbes as well as Oligosaccharides and Lactoferrin being required by the process. Thus far the long term efficacy of Fecal matter transplants ie #FMT being questionable at best is a possible alternative to this.

This is a thing now: #clang 16.0 passes my module test suite for the {fmt} library 🎉

With some additions to the primary interface unit related to the C++ standard library, it compiles the BMI and runs the test in the MSYS2 environment, too.

It looks like *importing* user-defined literals dosn't work yet: the namespace is visible, but 'operator""_cf ' isn't. This test is disabled for now.
