Tied up this cute little fly in hand. The wings were very fiddly. Haven't made one of these since last winter. There are plenty of imperfections, but it's a good first attempt for the season. The gold and green wraps are button hole silk. The collar is some kind of duck. The wings are speckled quail.

The flies I tied for trout didn’t work on trout 🙃
But they worked on a variety of fish including, Fallfish, Rock Bass, Creek Chub, Sunfish, and Smallmouth 🙄
So, I feel okay, even though they eat just about any fly 🤔

My excuse? The trout were only stocked about a week ago 😏

The ones I tied myself are nearly all gone because I use them first. So, no more tying or purchasing until I use up the flies I already have 🤔

Tied my first fly in a couple of months. That's a Gamakatsu S10-B in size 8. I really like this hook, but I struggle with the size 8 for some reason. Think I did it justice here, though. It's has got a natural "black" yarn body with a gold colored rib. The wing is deer hair. Tied it in hand (without a vise) using YLI 100 weight silk thread.

I caught one crappie on this fly and then promptly lost it in a tree. C'est la vie.

The marabou "beard" is inspired by the classic steelhead fly heron hackle. I will pinch the barbs and clip the dangling thread when the head cement is dry.

I'm working on Gunnar Brammer's Chosen One streamer pattern. These hooks (Gamakatsu B10s #1/0) aren't quite big enough for the full fuzzy fiber head. If I drop down to a #1 or a #2, I can tie the same fly and leave the head off; I think they will make really nice deceivers without the bulky head.

This material is a kanekalon product called Easy Braid. It is way less expensive than the premium craft fur products marketed for tying streamers.

Pumpkin spice glass beads for pumpkin spice sunfish. For some reason, I start seeing these warmouth sunfish late summer into early fall.

I caught it on a new-to-me Fenwick FF70 7' 5-6 weight fiberglass fly rod that has the date 7/7/70 written on the rod tube. The glass beads came from a bead shop in Athens Ohio. One of the feathers came from a pheasant, and the other came from my new ratty rooster skin.

This creek has several sunfish species, like Pumpkinseed (abundant), Bluegill (abundant), Redbreast sunfish (most abundant), Green sunfish (occasional), and some hybrids 😉

I need to get better at filming these things – also, need to be very careful when wading 🤔
