Hello Danmark.
Hello Europe's (imho) least pleasant station, Copenhagen Airport.
The stink of jet fuel greets you even before you leave your incoming train.
A breeze picks up as you wait on the platform and you assume the air will freshen. But of course that air is also filthy with jet pollution, so the only relief is when you stop noticing the noxious fog.
Never mind the climate emergency, why do we allow local air pollution like this?

@Ruth_Mottram Hope you had a good trip - I'm currently in Finland, got here with train to Stockholm, 11h ferry (but with fantastic skærgård views) to Åbo, then train journeys in #Finland. When planning I had hoped to avoid planes, but I either had to reverse my whole route, or include the three baltic countries and get another ferry from Kleipeda - it became too much so ended up with plane ticket Helsinki-Copenhagen. But otherwise nice feeling getting so far away without flying. Other than environmental benefits it feels more real to travel this way, last evening I saw a 'distance to cities signpost' with Esbjerg 1880 km, that's a long way...

The first of 4 #CrossborderRail trains today - I'm off to Abisko in Northern Sweden for a week of field training for #iQ2300..
The first is the regional train from my local regional station to København H, where I have a 10 minute transfer to Malmø #FlyIngLess

@Broadfork The one key issue that was missing from the programme is the highly skewed distribution of flying - small numbers fly enormously more than the majority. #flyingless

Third #train for today, from #KingCross station 🧙to #Cambridge.

Honestly, I am very jealous of the #UK train service. We arrived at the train station and jump on the next train, regardless of our initial plan. Our train tickets are for any route, any time. The return ticket is any day within 30 days from now. This is so flexible !

I’ve got a cabin with a forward view on deck 11 just below the bridge, which is a nice bonus, so hopefully they’ll be some light when we arrive so I can enjoy the view.

A hint for those attending #IUGG23 in #Berlin - the organisers have helpfully organised a ticket discount for all attendees with Deutsche bahn - it turns out to be much more worthwhile than I was expecting - only for travel within Germany though.
