Acadian Flycatcher
It’s been quite some time since I captured a photo of a bird that’s ‘new to me.’ This morning, however, an Acadian Flycatcher (Empidonax virescens) made an appearance while Charlie and I were sitting in the backyard. I see the occasional flycatcher, but this was my first encounter with an Acadian. These birds don’t come for birdseed; instead, they seem to be searching for something in the trees or maybe just curious about the gathering of birds nearby.
The photographs I share here aren't as vivid as those in my Pixel gallery. To ensure they load more quickly, I reduce their size and slightly lower their quality. Feel free to take a look!

This past weekend, another great day bird banding in #BatonRouge with Louisiana Bird Observatory. Migrants are starting to trickle in.

#BlowFlies, #Dragonflies were able to detect changes at the highest rate, with vision that could handle 300hz (300 times a second), significantly faster than humans (65hz).
In #vertebrates, the fastest eyes belonged to the pied #FlyCatchers which could see at 146hz. #Salmon clocked in at 96hz and #Dogs at 75hz.
