Reread "Flowers for Algernon" after some years. It is interesting how much it takes a look on the society and how we deal with each other. It clearly gives us a view to think about and do better wherever we can.

Currently reading: Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. At the beginning of the year, I selected 12 banned books to read at the rate of one each month. This is the final one planned for this year. I’ve enjoyed each of the books so much that I’m going to continue reading at least one banned book each month for the foreseeable future. #currentlyreading #FlowersForAlgernon #DanielKeyes #bookstodon #ReadBannedBooks

One of the books that made the biggest impressions on me as a kid was Flowers for Algernon (which I read far, far younger than was advisable as an advanced and voracious reader).
So I have to say that now living through an unacknowledged and unchecked pandemic that causes cognitive impairment and watching it steadily erode the people around me is a very particular kind of waking nightmare.

I got a really nice $5 bouquet of flowers from Aldi today via Instacart.
Can’t stop admiring my Flowers from Aldicart and giggling at the Flowers for Algernon reference.

I confess to have never written a single line of code using AI (and only used it for proofreading a couple of times).
Having read what Kent Beck has written regarding his experience with “augmented coding” using the “genie” there’s an interesting case to be made.
When your brain becomes less willing to put up with the boilerplatey part of coding but you still very much love doing it maybe AI will help bring the joy back.

Feel slightly off today - uneasy sluggish dull. Is it my trigger point injections of lidocaine a few weeks back wearing off? #FlowersForAlgernon

CW: Spoilers for Flowers for Algernon
Does this Neuralink stuff remind anyone else of “Flowers for Algernon”? The patient experiences temporary enhancement and then has it slowly taken away. I fear the potential psychological impact.

=Gastrointestinal system=
Symptoms include nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, heartburn and constipation. The gut microbiota composition (= the bacteria in your gut) is significantly altered.
Transferring gut bacteria from patients with LongCovid to healthy mice resulted in lost cognitive functioning and impaired lung defences in the mice. Poor mice.
