  1. I have thousands of photos of UK plants, so I thought I'd post one a day to just brighten things up a bit. Here's Coltsfoot, an early flowerer where the Dandelion-like flowers arrive before the leaves to get an head start on attacting pollenators. The flower head is actually hundreds of flowers that have turned into thin strips and "joined forces" to make one large "flower" #FlowerADay #Botany #Flower #Nature

  2. Surprise!
Some surprises are really exciting, and this was definitely one for me. I had seen this plant growing at the corner of the house under the crab apple tree the last year or two and I had almost pulled it out as a weed as it just looked strange. I guess I never got around to tidying that section of the garden, with so much to do everywhere else. So this year, when it started to grow, I thought I would keep an eye on it and get rid of it, if it seemed to be taking over, especially as it had these odd black balls growing along the stem at the leaf junctions. Long after our Asiatic lilies had finished flowering, I noticed that it seemed to have lily-like long buds appearing. I still wasn't convinced it could be anything noteworthy as we hadn't planted anything there and so why would there be? Then I saw the buds developed a tinge of colour and began to get excited. A couple of days after, there was this gorgeous Tiger Lily flower, in all its glory. What a wonderful surprise it was and I could hardly wait to share it with you all.

Wishing you all a day with some good surprises just like this one.

  6. Good Day Sunshine

Here is some sunshine on a stem for you!

Here is a ray of sunshine to brighten your day, friends. I believe this Heliopsis Helianthoides is known as a false sunflower, but it looks really like a sunny flower to me, nothing false about it. I hope you find some sunshiny moments today, everyone.
I’ve renamed the gallery and the theme to be “A Flower Almost Every Day”, which more accurately represents what I can comfortably manage.

  7. Inspiration
These yucca and daylily flowers have such a fragile beauty, lit by the low, soft light of the early evening sun. Looking at them, you would not believe that in the past few days they have been through days of intense heat, followed by torrential rains. Those rains caused flash floods and terrible destruction, washing out roads and a bridge. Yet, here they stand. They obviously have a strength that belies their apparent fragility. I hope that we all find the inner strength to withstand the storms we encounter and still remain standing, or, at worst, stand back up, with the help of our friends and those who love us.

I hope you enjoy the new colour scheme I have for my new start. I forgot to mention it in the last post.

  8. Ajuga. or Bugle flowers and bumblebee

May will start to bring spring flowers in more profusion, though this particular one is not yet blooming here. It's pretty ubiquitous here, once it takes hold, as you can read in the linked post on my site. Enjoy this, as the bees obviously do!

    elliekennard.ca/bumblebee-on-b

This is inspired by a posting by @catselbow and a photo by @mikako6 , so thank you to both!

  9. By Way of Celebration

I'm so pleased to have got our taxes done and e-filed that this lovely bright explosion of deep yellow crocus flowers from a post of mine in 2021 is a perfect fit for my mood.
These were spotted early on in the pandemic restrictions, when we were 'still able to travel into the city'. This post (linked) brings back memories. Happy Monday!

  10. Today for you I have tulip Clearwater, an elegant classic shape and a true white. Here with forget-me-nots and tulips Negrita Parrot and Uncle Tom.

  11. Sedum, the September wildlife crowd-pleaser. Grown from a gift from my neighbour Tommy when we lived in Dublin. It's all over the garden now and it reminds me of him every time.

  12. Surprise pink-toned lupin has appeared, possibly from a years-old seed from that one time I experimented with an apple blossom coloured lupin. Here making a May-like picture with pink and white erigeron.

  13. Lily Empress is not at all shy: look at those layers of petals. The perfume is a garden-filling knockout of a fragrance. Like Anouska that I showed you the other day, this is a roselily, and it's my first year growing them. Here with the Barbie pink phlox and magenta lychis coronaria.

  14. Morning glory Grandpa Otts: this electric beauty surprises me every morning as its trumpets open at different places on the vine. I managed to keep the slugs off (garlic spray!) when they were babies, so now about a dozen plants are climbing through the August garden. Each flower opens for just one day. But what a day.

  15. Today for you I have the indescribable #lily Anouska, a fragrant double form that looks like a lotus before it opens fully to show its stamens. Until this year I've never grown one of these double doubles, which are known as roselilies, and I've been waiting for this day. It's a stunner and I'll be growing it again. Mainly I garden for fragrance, and this has a fresh, gorgeous floral scent that doesn't overwhelm.

  16. I’m wanting to learn flowers’ names with close up pictures of the flowers in question. Can the #florists out there post a flower of the day? Pretty please! #floweraday

  17. The raspberry-red clematis on the left is Madame Julia Correvon, destroyed by the builders two years ago, or so I thought. It resprouted from below ground this spring. Here with a basket of petunias and the now-complete rose arch, with the twin ramblers Princesse Louise.

  18. Rosa Jude the Obscure's perfume is intense lemon and I love it. I won this years ago in a #garden magazine #poetry
    competition.

  19. Damage doesn't erase beauty, if anything it makes it more unique.

  20. The wall fountain corner, with double pink tulip Columbus and forget-me-nots. In the #Netherlands I used to admire how people put pots and baskets of spring flowers onto outdoor tables, and I always wanted to be that organised. I only put this container together in January, but it's still performing and giving me joy.

  21. The pond corner. The barrel will hold #peas later, but now it's #tulips (starring the double orange Orca), plus purple honesty that I dug up from where it had self-seeded. Behind it, #hellebores obscure the tiny pond, which is tucked into the corner and supports a few #frogs and #newts. A neighbor offered me her Victorian fireplace surround so I put it here with a mirror tucked behind, a trick from garden designer Mirabel Osler.

  22. I love when #gardeners show a wide shot of their spaces, so here's our courtyard outside the kitchen window, taken yesterday. The fan trained peach grows in the bed at the right, under-planted with spring bulbs. Climbing #hydrangea and #clematis Polish Spirit will cover the trellis later. Beneath them are things that have finished flowering like #crocus and #hellebores, plus a carpet of lily of the valley that's about to burst open.

  23. This is a gorgeous Purple Prince tulip that I think is developing a breaking virus, causing the white and pink feathering, but I love it. Planted with a handful of hyacinths plus forget-me-nots under the old peach tree at the side of our tiny courtyard.

  26. Madonna #Lily
I hope you all have a wonderful day today.
I can sit and stare at #lilies forever, with their intricate frills, stamens, petals and the visitors they attract.
All of those colours (the pink, the orange, the reds) would clash horribly in a dress, but they just work in this beautiful design.Actually,I will have this in a dress, please. The original post, part of my #FlowerADay project was here:
