  1. The idea of a mystical aim for soldiering, and battle as a psychoactive (like LSD?) got me thinking of Bertrand Russel on Boredom.
    > Wars, pogroms, and persecutions have all been part of the flight from boredom; even quarrels with neighbours have been found better than nothing. Boredom is therefore a vital problem for the moralist, since at least half the sins of mankind are caused by the fear of it.

  2. I found #FloodOfFire and and the pages about battles. It was the #BattleOfAssaye that concerned one of a main characters, an Indian mercenary, Kesri Singh. Another character, a disgraced rajah, Neel Rattan Halder, watches a British/Chinese battle in Hong Kong and muses about how unfair it is that battles determine so much. Along with the #BattleOfKerbala he mentions #Panipat and #Plassey.
