Simply ages ago, on a long car trip with the kids, it occurred to me that rude hand signs formed a pattern, and that many are effectively free to be used, perhaps to convey new offensivenesses.
Five fingers, each a binary folded /unfolded. Hold right palm facing you, other side facing protagonist. Thumb is the least significant bit.
We could go in order, but why not start at the start instead:
00100 (4) 'I do not like you at all, you should go away. now.'
00011 (3) 'I am slightly old fashioned and slightly more polite, though the meaning of this is very much (4)'
10000 (16) 'you have a teeny tiny penis'
10010 (18) horns - too many meanings to count, depending on culture, music preferences and the patriarchy.Some are not at all rude:
00000 (0) means 'I, as a member of this large protest group, have a thing to say about privilege and power'
00001 (1) 'can I ride in your car?'
00010 (2) 'look up there'
00111 (5) 'pew pew pew'
11000 (24) 'about this much alcohol in the tumbler please'
10001 (17) 'hang loose' the shaka
10011 (19) Gene Simmons trademark-applied-for horn sign and/or #ILoveYou #ILYI particularly like 10101 (21) and think it should be 'I have slavishly considered hand gestures, I believe that you are such a very bad person that I am flashing the most difficult one at you, you unutterable bastard.'

Sometimes little mishaps happen. Momentary upset (middle finger at the page in the photo), and then didn't let it stop me. I filled up the page with colour marker sketches using a collection of "colours of the year" from handful of places. Lovely blues and peachy colours.

CW: birdsite, its silly CEO
I submit that future occasions of billionaires effing around and finding out be called:
"Running Amusk"
-
@dangillmor Exactly This.
I've not been back since Elon was so keen to demonstrate his megalomania on the staff. I don't want to be a part of his world or his 'products'.
How long before he designed and built his social media site, by the way? 🤪

@annsmiley
#TwitterMigration is to be now known as #flipthebird. Genius. 👍 -
@annsmiley All it took to #FlipTheBird was one person with more money than sense.
But soon Elon's bluebird of happiness will be replaced with a chicken of depression. (h/t Gary Larson)

#deno has joined the other prehistoric creatures on Mastodon: @deno_land

We’re all going to figure this out together! #flipthebird #twittermigration

This is the perfect description of Mastodon. (from the Toot! page at the App Store.) #mastodon #flipthebird
-
I think we should call this migration “flipping the bird.” With a hashtag and stuff. #flipthebird

@photovotary Totally agree! When I joined Twitter in 2014, I got several condescending replies when I tried to figure out hashtagging ... or made grammar and spelling mistakes, or making fun of me because I only had a few followers ... I just feel so less anxious and attacked here. And, I found so many new and interesting tooters (is that the word to use?) to follow. So much better than the bird. #FlipTheBird #twittermigration #TwitterHellScape
-
@BlackAzizAnansi Not a dad joke but I saw you have (In Exile) in your name. I followed you on Twitter and I think migrating to Mastodon is like leaving an abusive relationship. It will take some time to get used to, but it's so much less stressful and more meaningful here. Once we all figure it out, we'll be so relieved that we were able to escape the #TwitterHellScape. #FlipTheBird

#flipthebirdHowdy all. Blue Team Sherpa, Gary Rimar, the Piano Guy, the guy who runs #PianoBarCon, it’s all me.
I figured out about a dozen years ago that I’d be happier doing cyber than fixing computers, fell into RMF, then CDSs and policy around them, and now do consulting through an excellent employer.
Why this handle? When I started feeding the bird, I was telling blue teams what to do, leading them through policy. There were other sherpas before me, and at least the one I know is also very worthy of respect.
Since my posts on the bird were 90% infosec, it made sense to come here. I read more than I write, and am grateful for others’ wisdom.
