  5. Saw a video essay last night that suggested "The Flintstones" wasn't actually EVER any good, and that it's continued existence in pop culture though the decades was purely at the service of selling merch, like vitamins, cereal, and push pops.

Not to say Flintstones wasn't used in that capacity -- quite the contrary. It absolutely was. And I have no doubt that side-hustle kept it alive in pop culture a lot longer than it might have otherwise.

But to engage in this revisionist history that suggests it was 'never actually any good' is so incredibly out of touch that I'm kind of impressed. The show was a parody of The Honeymooners, but even without that context, it stood on it's own just fine. It had sharp writing and an amazing voice cast.

Sure, it was a bit formulaic. But despite it's primitive backdrop, it was much more sophisticated and witty than many of it's peers at the time.

But yes, it's pretty much fallen out of the mainstream at this point, fading into pop culture background radiation, at best.

But for a long time it was a king.

  9. Certain childhood events will never be forgotten. Kennedy's Assassination, the Moon Landing, and of course, the birth of Pebbles Flintstone on February 22, 1963. I've envisioned her looking like grandma Pearl in adulthood. #art #arting #artwork #artworks #drawing #drawings #flintstones #theflintstones #fredflintstone #wilmaflintstone #pebblesflintstone #caveman #cavemen #prehistoric #meettheflintstones #fredstwofeet #bedrock #dino #famousbirth #famousbirths #therubbles #tv #classictv

  17. On this day in 1963, Pebbles Flintstone was born. That would mean that as of today she is eligible to receive early retirement benefits from Social Security. I actually hope she learned to talk at some point; in four years after she was born she never got much past goo goo ga ga. #Flintstones

  21. There's still an hour of Valentine's Day left in my time zone so I offer these lines of love poetry from the #Flintstones. If you think you might get lucky but haven't clinched the deal yet, let this be the deciding factor.
"You're a perfect peach my love, together we're a pair.
You're sweet, your nice, your paradise,
And all kind'a stuff like that there."
"Your shell-like ears, your dainty hands,
Your eyes so black, like frying pans."
