  36. The state of Texas has a GIS layer that shows building footprints. That data is solid red on this map.

Along the river the area with red diagonals is the ‘regulated floodway’ as identified by FEMA. **Note all the buildings in the floodway**.

The map should also display red lines which show tax parcels. If the red parcel lines do not display when the map opens then try zooming the map out and then in.

The marker on the map is roughly centered on the large Camp Mystic property.

  46. The marker on this map is at Camp Mystic on the Guadalupe River, Texas. This is where many children lost their lives in the flash flood. The dots on the map are clickable federal streamgages. Note that there are no streamgages upriver from the camp.

If there had been a federal streamgage upriver from Camp Mystic then any savvy iOS or Android developer could write an app that lets the user input the unique ID for that gage and then sound an alarm if the water level at the gage increases by a certain amount.

Edit: It looks the the federal government has (or at least had) an app to do just this.

Here is the link to download a csv file with the most recent data from any federal streamgage:
    api.water.noaa.gov/nwps/v1/gau

Replace the underline with the ‘gaugelid’ value which you can get by clicking a gage on the map I posted. This ID is the first attribute value.
