I've recently open-sourced v1.0 of my #golang spaced-repetition #flashcard #terminal (TUI) app.

It's called Mentat (and yes, I'm a Dune fan)

What is it? Similar to Anki, but for the terminal, because we all love staying in the command line. It uses plaintext deck files with a simple syntax and text-based FSRS review logs

I've just set up a release builder for macOS and Linux, so you can grab the pre-compiled binary and try it right away.

Each beer has it's own distinct #hop and trub leavings at the bottom of our kettle. A 'fun' #FlashCard game might be to "Name the beer by it's leavings." An unflattering concept, but visually intriguing. I am so very happy that I have not needed to climb into the kettle for a long, long time while it is still hot (it's been 12 years or more).

What is an #AIAgent or #AgenticAI whatever you want to call it? #Claude4 #Sonnet wrote an AI Agent yesterday that takes an English word to create a line with #English explanation and a sample sentence that uses the word.

I used #IBM Granite 3.3 8B (4.1 G bytes) small #LLM to process 3000 English words to produce over 500M bytes of data overnight while I was sleeping. I can now use this mega data set to feed the #GRE #Flashcard module of my #ICandy #browser #dashboard.

My son got a GoPro for Christmas. He asked me, "Dad, do you have a #flashcard I can use for my new camera?"

My old 32GB #microSD that I paid over $200 for years ago had errors so I went online to buy a new one:

$39 for 512GB.

I consciously know flash memory #prices halve every year but never in my WILDEST DREAMS did I expect half a TB for the price of a light LA dinner - so small I could accidentally swallow it.

(Note: I still recall being stunned by the 256K RAM chip back in 1982 so...)

Are there any good #flashcard/quiz apps that are:
* Open source
* Cross-platform and offline
* File-based (vs. one big container into which you import data)

Why file-based? I store each deck of cards (=topic) in a Markdown file and I update those files often. With a file-based user interface, I find it easier to always see the current state and to switch between decks.

Made a #Quizlet #flashcard deck for my #GCSE #Literature students last week to practice as #homework for our #revision lesson before the #mocks .

Set the deadline to practice the cards a day before the #lesson .

Now I'm going into that lesson with an up-to-date awareness of where we are as a class and what ideas need refreshing most urgently and I haven't even done an #assessment or done any #marking on it.
