I've got a #flagpole I built out of fiberglass camoflage-net poles and 3D printed fittings for the flags.. and I want to put an #antenna inside.
I'd planned on your run-of-the-mill #vertical with ground radials.

I'm interested in being able to tune from 160-10m on it using a #tuner at the feedpoint. The thing is, I don't want to buy one, I want to build one.

The conundrum: I'm having trouble deciding what kind of tuner I want to build.

So, I'm looking for recommendations. Which network do I build?

a) L
b) T
c) Pi
d) Pi-L

I know it'll depend somewhat on what the impedance is at the feedpoint for the particular frequency in question and the range needed, but here are the restrictions:

1) It needs to be small-ish. I'd like for the tuner to fit in a box no larger than 12x16 inches.
2) I'm not a rich person, so it needs to be affordable. Anything less than $500 for all the parts I'd consider affordable.
3) It needs to be remotely-controllable. I've got stepper motors left over from a dead 3D printer, and plenty of Arduino/ESP32 microcontrollers to play with, and time to experiment and write the code.. but it doesn't necessarily need to be automatic. I don't mind tuning manually, but having memories stored would also be useful.
4) The parts (variable inductors and capacitors) need to be either affordable or buildable.

The vertical wire will be between 23 and 28 feet long. The ground plane will probably be some sort of metallic mesh/grid with radial wires coming off of that central mesh/grid.

Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?
