"The protest group 50501 is urging supporters to reserve free tickets to Trump's planned military parade and then not attend, aiming to leave the event sparsely populated.
Why It Matters
"The protests, organized by the 50501 Movement (50 protests, 50 states, one movement) and other groups, are targeting a military parade scheduled to take place in the nation's capital on June 14, coinciding with Trump's 79th #unbirthday, the Army's 250th anniversary, and #FlagDay.
"Organizers of the protests are calling for June 14 to be a 'nationwide day of defiance' and are calling for both people to join in the protests as well as eat up tickets to the military parade."

"The Department of Defense over the weekend wished social media a 'Happy Flag Day!'
'Let us honor the emblem of our nation and the stars and stripes that unite us all. As we display our nations flag and reflect on the values it represents, let’s celebrate the freedom, courage and resilience that makes our country great,' the department stated Saturday.
The image attached to the post included two small images that appear to represent the Russian flag.
The internet reaction came quickly.
Geopolitics expert Jessica Berlin said, 'Nothing to see here, just the United States Dept of Defense wishing everyone a happy Russian flag day.'
Economics professor Roman Sheremeta said, 'The U.S. Department of Defense congratulated Americans on their Flag Day. Except the two small flags are Russian.'
'This post has been up on the Department’s X page for several hours. It is very telling about who is really running the U.S. Department of Defense,' he added on Saturday."

June 14, 1943 - The U.S. Supreme Court decided a West Virginia case [Barnette v. Board of Education] by upholding the constitutional right of children in public schools to refuse to salute the American flag when it is in conflict with their religious beliefs.
A group of Jehovah’s Witnesses had objected to the mandatory salute as a violation of the Judeo-Christian third commandment (Exodus 20:4) which prohibits worshipping a graven image.
“To sustain the compulsory flag salute, we are required to say that a bill of rights, which guards the individual's right to speak his own mind, left it open to public authorities to compel him to utter what is not in his mind.” – from the 6-3 decision
