End of term. Our weekly gaming group keeps plugging away. Our #FistfulofLead games are usually quite larger with up to 8 or 9 players. Sometimes even more.
I’ve learned to strip it down to ensure the game keeps flowing and everyone gets a turn. The objectives are typically short and sweet. It’s a miracle but most times the games resolve with clear winners.
We only have a limited lunch break to get it up and running. Meaning we can’t faff about with special rules!

So I have finished the teaching year.
Time for a breather. The games club has been running regularly with weekly sessions of #FistfulofLead games.
I’ve been so busy that most weeks I just haven’t had the chance to take photos, but here is the last shot of the club for ‘24, taken yesterday for our school end of year activities day.
It was exhausting but fun. Now I have to think and plan for a commerative wargame project for 2025.

#canberra Regional Wargame group at Lanyon Vikings Club’s monthly meet up today.
We played a moderns skirmish game using #FistfulofLead rules. I made a quick and dirty chart of random events for the scenario that had, random civilians wandering into the area, tropical downpours, mudslides, lost bearings, wild animal attacks…all drafted & edited with AI!
Really fun game. As always, club was busy. Bunch of #wargames #BoardWargames with about 30 players in attendance. #Tabletop

Today’s two sessions were spent playing through & learning the mechanisms for a Second World War game. In preparation for our upcoming D-Day event (Utah).
We mostly play lighter #fistfuloflead games in our club. Today I introduced some *slightly* deeper concepts. Unit cards, historically plausible random events and a CRT table.
In not much time the students began to absorb the changes. We have 20+ kids!
And good news - another teacher has joined the club!

Recess & lunch sessions with the students today. Last week of a very long term!
A sci-fi scenario of Space Dwarves vs Aliens. Narrow wins for the Dwarf space contingent as they raced for their hover tanks to escape a marauding Alien army.

Two sessions today for the students at our school club. Robin Hood vs Naughty Knights.
Robin and his merry men had to rescue Maid Marion before she was led away. A highlight - the Merry men shooting arrows at the mounted knight, a hero on his first turn. A failed armour save, a critical wound.
You live fast and die fast in #FistfulofLead …it’s fast & brutal and perfect for teens at lunchtimes.

#Tabletop games today @ recess & lunchtime for the students. A zombie survival game, always popular with the students. A double dose of ten player games of #FistfulofLead .
My head is spinning.
A highlight was a year 7 kid killing three zombies outright in a single combat…to be fair, the kid had the chainsaw wielding character. Rolling hot dice for his first ever miniatures game!
As for #miniaturepainting , my 1/32 Italeri Gladiators are slowly so slowly getting done.

Two games sessions today, both WW2 skirmish using #FistfulofLead rules. Too busy again to take photos.
The club is becoming very popular though, lots of diverse players…a few D&D players and even some #warhammer kids turning up.
We always have a bunch of girls playing too, so it would seem that gaming isn’t just a ‘boys own’ nerdy hobby now.
In other news…my 1/32 gladiators are slowly getting painted.

#Tabletop #Wargaming #wargames #lunchtimewargame Two sessions today. The junior students at recess was too hectic for photos with 12 kids plus extra kids. At lunchtime the seniors session was a very relaxing smaller session. 28mm #FistfulofLead

#Tabletop #Wargaming #historicalwargame 4 player #FistfulofLead Bigger Battles today at the #canberra Regional Wargames Group at Lanyon Vikings club. 1/72 of course. A Normandy themed scenario from the rule book. The German battle group had to exit off the map with at least half of their units. The Americans managed to chew up a lot of that German effort with lots of sneaky bazooka fire and mortar rounds. Only five German units from the twelve managed to make it. A narrow loss but good fun.

##tabletop #wargames #lunchtimewargame club has started at school today. Lots of players and spectators. First game of zombie themed #FistfulofLead was too chaotic and fun to take photos. Nine players at recess followed by the senior students playing some East Front #historicalwargaming during the next session. 8 players pushing tanks and dropping mortars. My ears are still ringing from the mad chatter and trash talking from the two games. #Tabletop .

I’ve decided on my personal big project - and an ambitious project - for the school gaming club in 2024. As it will be the 80th Anniversary of the Normandy landings it would be great to conduct some historical scenarios. It will also motivate us to refresh and assemble new terrain, build some more vehicles, and take on a new rule set. I think I will stick with the fast playing #fistfuloflead Bigger Battles with the students…but I have always wanted to try the Battlegroup rules. #wargaming

Zombie survival game for the last day of the term. I have bunch of Last Night on Earth figures from the boardgame. The human team managed to take out a few zombies but ultimately the undead were victorious. A fun game to round out the year. #Tabletop #FistfulofLead #miniaturegaming

End of year student gaming. Mixture of my painted up #HeroQuest2021 figures and the student’s #warhammer Orcs that they’ve recently assembled and painted. Conan & friends fought bravely trying to rescue the Meeple villages (VPS) from a marauding horde of orcs, goblins and a golem…#Wargaming #FistfulofLead
-
Last #lunchtimewargame of the year. The students have finished painting and basing their Orcs! We had nine finished figures on the table. The students couldn’t believe it when I said they could keep their Orcs and take them home. Next week there will be three longer sessions for me to run so I’m going to be exhausted. Todays game was a 10 player #FistfulofLead loot n’ scoot. Very noisy, lots of fun, and a three way tie for the honours. #Tabletop #Wargaming #miniaturepainting #miniaturegaming

#Tabletop #Wargaming #historicalwargaming #lunchtimewargame with some Year 10 students in our gaming club today. A rudimentary play through to demonstrate the mechanisms of #FistfulofLead for some newer players.

#lunchtimewargame today with 7 junior students. I ran a replay of the scenario the senior students played a few days ago. The bandit side did much better, holding out and defending the perimeter, even managing to draw enough jokers to repair the jeep. Some of the bandit players staged a fighting retreat to get to the car, but unluckily, a well placed grenade scored three hits and took out the car on the last round. #Tabletop #Wargaming #wargames #skirmishgames #Fistfuloflead

#Tabletop #wargaming #miniaturewargaming #FistfulofLead #lunchtimewargame . More skirmish wargaming with the senior students at lunch time. Bandits had to repair their Landcruiser by drawing 4 jokers from the deck so they could scarper…unfortunately their escape got thwarted by some well placed HMG fire that damaged the vehicle beyond repair. Still the game was much closer than expected - rockets & grenades a-flying- with the government side just winning by 2pts.. One of my better scenarios.
-
Nothing beats the looming deadline of gaming to motivate me to complete hobby tasks. I finished painting up my BTR60 last night…straight to table today for my lunchtime gaming group. A bit of Cold War in 28mm. Team A had to get through the minefield and ambush to win. The APC managed to survive Team B’s attack but not much else did. 9 player game with Team B winning by 3 points. #fistfuloflead #tabletopgames #wargames #wargaming #MiniatureWargames #historicalwargaming

I’ve extended our school’s lunchtime #Tabletop #wargames #wargaming #miniaturewargaming group to twice weekly. This means I can split the session into a senior and a junior group. Today’s session was an introductory session for some Yr 9&10 students we had a really nice & relaxed learning game with 3 boys and a girl playing a Second World War #fistfuloflead game. There’s a lot of tactical considerations even in a simple game such as this and the students seem very engaged.

WIP BTR-60PB by Rubicon. Very delicate handles, lights and hatches..it’s a lovely kit but I don’t know how well these will hold up during gaming. Especially considering that I game a lot with children and teens. Very slow going for me as I don’t have the patience for assembling tiny components…but I will persevere. The students seem to vibe in tanks and armour in their games . #Tabletop #Wargaming #miniaturepainting #historicalwargaming #FistfulofLead #wargames

Today’s school lunchtime game of #FistfulofLead was zombie themed. The human team had to get across the board alive, but soon became distracted by the lure of driving the truck. Good to see them working as a team…but unlucky activations meant they were soon swarmed by hoards of zombies. #Tabletop #boardgames #miniaturegaming

#FistfulofLead Bigger Battles at #canberra Northside Gamers, once a month @ Belco Raiders. Lots of great looking games with you beaut terrain and figures. Our fantasy game had Orcs, bandits and ‘Knights of the Realm’ loot gold. My daughter had a bit of a sook when her grandad’s knights pinched her gold on the last turn, winning the game. #Tabletop #wargames #wargaming #miniaturegaming

#FistfulofLead at the school lunchtime #Wargaming #Tabletop club I run. Another 10 player game following up from last week’s clash. The Russian team still holds the building objective and also managed to knock out the Panzer IV and the Recovery tank…but the game is poised with German reinforcements about to storm the building. The students seemingly enjoy the light strategy, even though the games have been far less bloody than our usual fantasy games.#miniaturewargaming #historicalwargaming

#FistfulofLead at our lunchtime games club with 10 students participating. Today’s game ran pretty smoothly and I managed to take a few photos. We played an East Front match up, and I was surprised that the students were making some sound tactical choices (for a change). They spent much of the game manoeuvring between cover and taking the odd pot shot with their tanks. The Russians reached the objective first…next week they want to continue…#Wargaming #miniaturewargaming #historicalwargaming
