Found the second best #fishNchips in Finland. #JohnScotts pub in Helsinki has all the proper condiments, decent fish and even the fries were quite chip-like, with a better price than Belge (especially their lunch price!).

Nice environment too. Oh and they do #RCCola for fans of that.

Lovely atmosphere at the #Bierstube pub in #Kuopio. Cosy, hidden spot, some OK beers, good vibe. They even offer food, and some of the portions might be good. But the #fishNchips is utterly abyssmal!

Fish was some Findus quality affair, poor batter, chips were French fries. Worse still: they did that criminal Finnish thing of putting the ‘grill flavour’ (grillimauste) on the fries. Wwhhhhhyyyy!?!?

With even minimal effort this could’ve been so much better.

Yay, #Mattila Farm in #Nurmijärvi are bringing back their #fishNChips! One of the best in #Finland (second only to Belge). If they’ve kept to their previous recipe the fish and batter is crisp and fresh, none of that breadcrumb nonsense you frequently see here. They have mushy peas. They had least occasionally had malt vinegar. The chips are not real chips, but still pretty decent and nicely salted.

It’s at a farmhouse in the countryside, surrounded by strawberry fields. Also artisan pizzas.

Been there now twice and I can confirm that in #Helsinki #Belge has the best #fishnchips.

* Beer battered fish (with crispy fresh batter)
* Mushy peas
* Malt vinegar
* The real kicker: actual chips! Impossible to get anywhere else. Not the thin French fry thing, or even the slightly thicker farmhouse fries. But real chips.

It’s pricey, but I’ve tested almost 20 places in #Finland, this is the best. (#MattilaFarm used to be OK but they stopped doing them and chips were wrong).

Das Wetter scheint zu halten und so kann man sich ja schon mal früh, mit einer Tasse Tee in der Hand, an den Strand begeben….

Für heute ist Dunbar angesagt, ein wenig durch die Stadt, ein paar EInkäufe machen, Tanken und…?

Das letzte mal Fish & Chips in diesem Urlaub. Und so viel haben wir echt nicht gegessen davon, es ist selbst für Urlaub und wo man bereit ist mal mehr auszugeben, echt scheiße teuer geworden. Aber trotzdem noch sau lecker.

Was wir dann erlebten, könnt ihr nur im Podcast hören und ist wieder so eine Geschichte, die es wohl nur in UK gibt. Danke das die Briten so sind, wie sie sind, auch wenn sie sich beim Brexit haben verarschen lassen.

Dieser Stein hier ist aus dem berühmten Dunbar Marble und die findet man hier in der Region recht häufig. Fossile Muscheln, eingeschlossen in Gestein.

Proper #fishnchips is just such an excellent food, when done right in the UK. Even the cheap lunch option I’m now having is superior to everything in Finland. I don’t know why the Finnish options are so miserable and expensive :(

@evilpaul_atebit the best places for #fishnchips I’ve found so far in Finland (and I’ve tried *many*) are #Belge in Helsinki (portion is small, and expensive, but content is correct) and #Mattila Tila in Nurmijärvi, closeish to where we live. The latter is a nice farm open in the summer with local produce and countryside surroundings. Good pizzas and burgers too. Their fries are nice, but not ‘chips’. I’d give both **** on Finnish scale.

#fishnchips at #Britannia / #Kivis in #Kivistö. High price (€26) for what was quite a small portion. Fish batter was heavy and overdone, not golden and fresh, though better than at #StUrhos. Chips were the usual country fries. The menu stated mushy peas but they weren’t available (they only reacted when we asked about them, with free bad Yellow Label tea). 2/5 stars on Finnish scale. Would be 1/5 on British scale for this price.

No decent fish 'n' chips in Canberra so when at the coast, got to get to Berny's.

New Finnish #fishnchips location tested: #Vltava in Helsinki. Fish seemed like it might have been ready battered from a freezer, though the taste was a bit better than expected. Fish size was small and without that nice natural shape and chaotic batter. Vinegar was offered, but chips were standard curved jobs, not British style chips (impossible to get in Finland). No mushy peas. Finnish rating: ***. British: **.

Does anyone have advice on getting #fishnchips in #australia? I’ve been told by one major proprietor that it should be shark, elsewhere I’ve seen barramundi, basa, ling, hoki, snapper, hake, gemfish - but I’m still a bit sad I can’t have cod and chips. Anyone want to tell me what is best here?

At my local fish and chips shop and loving the Gen Z guy behind the counter chatting with the old dear as she collects her order - clearly a regular.

Finnish #fishnchips review, #Faro: pretentiously priced, pretentiously presented. Small portion of bread battered fish in the shape of a dildo with roasted potatoes wedges. As a plus they had mushy peas. I mean as food it was OK flavour, if expensive for what you get, but as fish’n’chips way off the mark.
