I have taught these courses many times before, but as always I make sure that I too have a fresh encounter with the material, bringing in each concept like a living creature that wants to talk to me and to the student, at this very moment. The students can feel the reality of it: they sense my own excitement of being in touch with a live subject. It's such a privilege to be a teacher and to have good students. I am so grateful. Life is good.

Final #mastodon #firstweek observation for tonight: I love watching the feeds of both this instance and the federated timeline scroll themselves by. There's something both fascinating and freeing about watching these ephemeral rivers of posts float up the screen, knowing you could never read them all. Reminds me of scrolling through AM radio stations at night as a kid, hearing alternately clear and garbled syllables with no burden of context as the tuner needle passes each frequency by.
