Please help @finncon #finncon2024 A lovely person came to speak to me after the queer fantasies panel Sunday morning and gave me their email address but I must've written it down wrong because it keeps saying 'undelivered' - I'd really like to get in touch with this person as promised, so if anyone can help, please do. The email address was something like orakakuru or otakaruku ? I'm sure I mixed up the letters 😭

@Setok My original idea was to have a more discerning view but this was the way the conversation flowed and we ran with it… I probably actually prefer this more humorous version but still think there is also a conversation one could have about what counts (subjectively) as sf and why.

Jos muuten ostit mun romaanin, niin pliis kehu/hauku se somessa, arviot on mulle todella tärkeitä ja kehittää mua kirjailijana. Jotenkin keskivertoinen kirjani ostaja vaikutti siltä ettei kirjagrammaile pittoreskeilla asetelmilla, mutta voi sen silti jossain mainita!

Lensin ja junailin itseni Lontoosta Jyväskylään ja olikin kiva ja jännä viikonloppu. En ehtinyt kuin yhteen ohjelmaan, mutta ei ohjelma oikein tällä kertaa kiinnostanutkaan, tykkäsin olla kustantajani Nysalorin pöydällä ja myydä ja signeerata avaruusoopperaa. Kaikki meni, kaikki paikalle tuodut avaruusoopperat ja jopa ne pari kappaletta mun vanhempaa novellikokoelmaa Musta Linna! Olen hirveän iloinen siitä miten montaa vielä kiinnostaa suomalainen avaruusooppera

#DarkMatter was a lot more impactful in the end than we thought. You just have to get by the first two or three episodes (which can be a struggle). Thanks to the ‘What to Watch’ tip at #finncon2024 we endured. Was worth it.

Great paper this morning on how much we can infer from ancient texts, given that we can’t rely on understanding authorial intent. Much overlap with discussions at #finncon2024 #RAI_69

This isn't data — it isn't even really the plural of _anecdote_, for that matter — but based on my recent experiences at #finncon2024 I have a very strong hunch that queer-coded people are more likely to wear masks at conferences.

Not everyone does, of course. But I was definitely not the only one wearing one this time.

#finncon2024 is over. I had a great time – my program items went well (and people came to see them!), hanging out with the organizers and the other guests was a blast, there was good food and plenty of drinks, and in general good times were had by all. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make the convention happen! And especially thanks to Reko for the gorgeous badge holder!

If you ever visit #Finland, be sure to taste some real #sahti #beer. A rare and delicious opportunity to taste an ancient form of #beer that has died out almost everywhere else. A unique tradition that predates the widespread use of hops (so uses juniper and other herbs) and is endangered even in Finland, but can still be found.
