**Backup**: Backup is where I feel the new solution is truly better. I backup and check files with CarbonCopyCloner and it is transparent and fast. No export of huge DB backup files anymore - I keep data in files and I backup on the files level. And it is fast!
**Search**: On macos I've settled on the excellent #FindAnyFile, it does the trick for me and is really not expensive. Theoretically spotlight could to the trick, but I prefer to have more control.

Here's a tip for Mac users: If you find the many results from a Spotlight or Finder search hard to read because you can't easily tell where the found items are located, you can transfer them to #FindAnyFile where you can see them in a hierarchical folder view as shown in the image here.

[ANN] I've finally managed to release version 2.5 of #FindAnyFile for macOS after over one year of making improvements and beta testing.
Apart from bug fixes, it also has some major performance improvements for searching on file servers, especially on #Synology and #QNAP NAS systems.

A new beta of #FindAnyFile (#FAF), the Mac program for finding files on all your disks, is now ready for testing.
Great new feature: Can now use the "find" command on the NAS and Linux/Unix servers via ssh, making it MUCH faster.
Contact me directly if you want to test this, as this requires extra setup steps for now.

#Mac users rejoice!
After 18 months I've finally managed to release v2.4 of #FindAnyFile. Now with scriptable (Lua, JavaScript) search rules, many more search options (e.g. in comments and inside Word, Excel and zip files) and more.
