Cinematography is stunning. Aaron Taylor-Johnson solid. Ralph Fiennes quietly devastating. Alfie Williams is phenomenal as the boy. And Jodie Comer? Whew. Not infected with rage, but cancer — a slower death, but no less tragic.

Karaoke Terror (2003) is a pretty fun dark comedy based on a Ryu Murakami novel (who is my favourite author!!) It’s best to go in not knowing anything and just letting the story take you.

I watched Hideaki Anno’s RITUAL (2000) this week. In fact I watched 3 of Anno’s films this week (I was going to say non-Evangelion films but remembered one was a live action short from End of Eva) - although it’s probably my least favourite it was still very very good. No one does existential crisis like Anno, he is so masterful. I’ve just got Shin Godzilla left from his big films left to watch and the one he’s releasing this year. I think he might be my favourite director of all time.
