With your support I've been able to save eighty more #filmstrips since January 1st, all available free on the @internetarchive, but there are more than 3,000 still waiting. Nobody else is saving them. Your continued support means more nearly-lost media saved.

March update: $394 of $30,000. Not good.
I've scanned nearly 70 #filmstrips since January 1 and fully restored five. All free on the @internetarchive. Still driving Doordash to pay the bills.
3,000 left to scan, ~1,000 left to restore. Keep me funded so I can work through them.
-
IN THE OFFICE: Scanning #filmstrips all afternoon and evening for future upload to the @internetarchive. Come keep me company while I save this institutionally marginalized nearly-lost media before it's too late.

Happy Valentine's Day to the 2nd love of my life: 4,000+ #filmstrips from the 20th century that nobody else wants. I've saved over 1,300 of them so far, all free at the Internet Archive. The rest are still at risk.
If you love weird, forgotten things and can help me save them: https://uncommonephemera.org/donate

This is how #filmstrips are saved: slowly, one frame at a time. Our scanner continues to run. We'll save as many as we can. Watch each frame come off the scanner today before they're uploaded to the Internet Archive. #digipres

It’s #GivingTuesday.
While VHS & vinyl get the love, 20th century #filmstrips are quietly turning to dust. I’m the guy scanning them before they vanish. Every finished film gets permanently safeguarded at the Internet Archive.

Donations and patronage keep me able to save #filmstrips. We are way behind, and dangerously close to having to shut down. We aren't eligible for grants, and this is full-time work. Can you help us spread the word?

Did you know that #filmstrips were a low-cost alternative to 16mm movies? Not preserving them means disproportionately ignoring poor school districts, underprivileged learners, and marginalized communities. We could use your help to safeguard these forgotten films at the Internet Archive.
-
It's time to get started again! I was able to save fifty-one #filmstrips in June. Can I do it again? We're streaming the frames coming right off the scanner, and sharing some original lo-fi music too. Come see how independent preservationists fight to save lost media.
-
LIVE NOW: Ever wonder how #filmstrips get scanned and safeguarded at the Internet Archive when you don't have institutional money? Watch me try to save thousands of lost films one frame at a time.

Saving #filmstrips means scanning filmstrips, no matter how long it takes. You can watch new frames being digitized on YouTube right now. When it's done I'll upload them to the @internetarchive.

LIVE ON YOUTUBE NOW: Scanning #filmstrips to safeguard them at the Internet Archive. See frames as they're saved, and learn how slow the process really is when you don't have the support for better equipment. All original ambient music too. Help us save these lost films!

I found communities that will take off air TV #videocassette recordings with commercials. They also love newscasts, PBS pledge drives, you name it as long as it was recorded off air.
Please feel free to forward this post to others who might be interested. Let's keep these old #VHS tapes (and #Betamax) tapes circulating. Links below
1. Send me a direct message. I collect and digitize science fiction / fantasy convention footage and fan videos or song tapes
https://fanlore.org/wiki/Songtape_Collection
2. Contact Uncommon Ephemera who digitizes video cassettes and posts them to the #InternetArchive (his main focus is preserving educational video #FilmStrips, but he also digitizes video cassettes)
3. Join this Facebook group, these individuals are collectors not digitizers but they're thrilled to receive donations
-
Please promote - help preserve educational filmstrips that no one else in the world is archiving. Link to video about the project. If you cannot donate, please share.
