10-second spoiler-free movie review: "Dead Man's Wire" (2026)
Based on an actual hostage-taking incident in 1977, this is fantastic. Tense and claustrophobic but with an underlying current of dark humour, it also has layers to it. A fantastic cast and great performances all around. One of the better movies I've seen recently.
Highly recommended.

Spoiler-free 10-second movie review: "Narcissist's Playbook" (2026) - documentary
If you're interested in psychology, especially abnormal psychology, this is fascinating. It's about narcissism in general, but also about the psychopathic end of that spectrum in particular. It includes interviews with actual narcissists across that spectrum.
It kind of takes a right-turn partway through, and my partner explained what was behind that - they already followed this subject and these participants in particular.
Like I said, fascinating.

10-second spoiler-free movie review: "Disclosure Day" (2026)
A very good film - not perfect, but very good. Mixes scifi and action-thriller well. I didn't know it was directed by Spielberg until the end - it avoided his usual Disney-fication of subject matter. Probably the best scifi I've seen since "Arrival" (2016).
An excellent cast with great performances. Highly recommended.

Spoiler-free 10-second movie review: "The Thursday Murder Club" (2025)
It's very good, and has an incredible cast. Legitimately ticks the drama, comedy, mystery, and thriller boxes. It suffers a bit from its Hollywood influence (it's a British-US co-production) because Hollywood *has* to dumb everything down, so it's not quite "excellent", but still enjoyable.
Recommended.

Spoiler-free 10 second movie review: "Code 3" (2025)
Fantastic; drama, comedy, thriller, but mostly because it feels *real*. I will remember this film decades after I've forgotten the last Disney or Marvel POS I saw. The cast are all excellent, but Rainn Wilson gives the performance of his life.
See it.

10-second spoiler-free movie review: "One Battle After Another" (2025)
Story is interesting and well-told, cast is great, action is competent, black-comedy elements are solid.
But boy-oh-boy does Paul Thomas Anderson need someone to tell him "No." from time to time. This weighs in near 3 hours, and it could easily have been trimmed to 2 hours without leaving out anything critical to story or character development.

Spoiler-Free Movie Review: "Bugonia" (2025)
Incredible. I'm not going to say anything else. See it. Go into it knowing nothing about it, if possible.

Spoiler-free #10SecondMovieReview : "Good Fortune" (2025) [1]
Entertaining implementation of a well-used premise that manages to find some new twists. Fantastic cast, good storytelling, very enjoyable. Pushes the message slightly too hard rather than allowing the audience to figure it out, but nowhere near as bad as, say, post-1990 James Cameron beating the audience over the head with a bat.
See it.

Spoiler-free movie review: "Thelma" (2024)
This is fantastic - a comedy for adults, with a real heart and some surprises. Great cast. See it.

#5SecondMovieReview : "Fido" (2006)
Comedy / horror with a bit of romance, which is difficult to pull off successfully, but it's a delight when it is - as it is here. It's also a subtle but biting satire. Fantastic cast, quirky characters, all aided by being a Canadian production.
Very worthwhile. See it.

Action / dark comedy / drama / thriller. It's good and different. Great cast. See it.

#5SecondMovieReview : "The Ballad of Wallis Island" (2025)
Tiny but fantastic cast, one setting, touching, funny, and warm - see it. Note: you may have the urge to kill the character 'Charles' for the duration of the movie.

Jules (2023) - a #SciFi/#comedy starring Ben Kingsley, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Jane Curtin.
This is a cute and #quirky take on the classic #alien-contact story. Ben Kingsley is a retired gentleman in a small midwest town, and an unlikely target for first contact with an alien species. It's warm, it's funny, it has a bit of the air of Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), and it doesn't go in the completely obvious directions that you expect it to.
It's another movie for #adults, with interesting characters, great performances, and very few #pixels.
Highly #recommended.

Aside: these mini #MovieReview toots seem to be appreciated. Given how difficult it is to find good movies for adults - things where story, people, relationships are the core, rather than Yet Another Horrible #Disney/#Marvel #CGI #Festival - and how little promotion #Hollywood gives such movies, I think I'll keep sharing these. And maybe start searching the #fediverse for others' takes on the same sorts of searches.
