  1. CW: My own ideas about a Groundhog Day like time loop film, inspired by watching several episodes of the podcast Good Night, Rita

I'm still waiting for a Groundhog film where his loop seems to break after he does whatever the hell he wants because he thinks it comes with no consequences.

Maybe first do a bit of fourth wall breaking by having him recognise he's looping "like that guy from Groundhog Day", and then first spends a couple of loops trying to do good things, just for the sake of getting out of the loop, only to not break out of it. (Perhaps because he's not genuinely trying to help others, but rather only does it to help himself.)

After several loops trying to nail the perfect loop, only to wake up disillusioned on Day One again, he cracks and spends the next loop giving in to every intrusive thought, including taking out the groundhog, ending the day in jail.
Only to wake up the next day, Day Two... still in jail. Now his loop is broken and he's forced to face the consequences of his choices.

Not quite sure how to end it though...
Perhaps that at first he thinks it's because he took out the ground hog, but eventually he realises it's because he only did the good things with the intention to get out of the loop. A bit like how The Good Place explored Immanuel Kant's deontological philosophical concept of "good without qualification"; doing good because you should, and not because of the reward you are expecting because of it.

And once he truly realises that, perhaps sacrificing himself to save someone else, he wakes up on Day Two again, but this time that day continues on from how the very first Day One would've ended.

Alternatively maybe play with the idea that all this time he's been in Purgatory, and having finally realised the mistakes of his life, he's finally ready to move on to the next stage of his afterlife.

Or a combination of the two, and having to carry on with his life, never being sure if he's still stuck in a longer loop, doomed to repeat at some point as a Purgatorial punishment loop, similar to those from some episodes of #Lucifer.

  2. Meh, The Dead Don't Die was not worth watching at all... Should've known from the first time they broke the fourth wall...

  3. Not sure why it was still prominently featured on Netflix's front page, but I thoroughly enjoyed #ViolentNight. 🤣
A bit late for a #christmas film, but this was a lovely #horror / #gore film by #TommyWirkola, which certainly explains the #DeadSnow / #DødSno style to it.

  7. Just finished watching #AboutTime.
This one definitely certainly goes on my list of favourite #TimeTravel #films!
Lovely film, and wonderful to see #BillNighy again. Made me emotional by the end of it.

  9. Want to watch a film starring the actors who played the following #StarTrek characters?

    as well as #AnnikaPeterson, #AlexisThorpe, #EllenCrawford and #WilliamKatt?

Then here's my periodic reminder that #TheManFromEarth exists and is proof you don't need a big budget and a lot of sets to make a brilliant film.
Just a great story (in this case a screenplay by #JeromyBixby, who also penned several #STTOS episodes) and good actors who can portray that story.

You can watch it on youtube.com/watch?v=HAX2RuZm-F

  10. Completely missed it when it came out in 2022, but finally watched #LangeFlateBallærIII.
Perhaps not as funny as the first one, but probably on par or slightly better than the second one. :)
I enjoyed watching it at least, and found the cameos of #SamanthaFox and #MärthaLouise funny. ;)

  11. I very much enjoyed #EnolaHolmes 2.
Nice balance between action, problem solving and character development. :)

  12. CW: Spider-Man: No Way Home (spoilers)

Especially loved the return of Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn / The Green Goblin (that laugh / cackle is just unique), as well as J.K. Simmons as John Jonah Jameson, Jr.
Also liked how the other Spideys weren't de-aged or anything.

A bit annoyed though that I missed some of the backstory from not having seen everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

  13. The Man From Earth, I don't know how often I've watched this #film so far, but after all these times, it's still such a great #movie to watch...

The premise, what if your friend claims to have been born as a #CroMagnon, and has thus supposedly has lived for thousands of years, is such an intriguing one.
The setting, your friend's home and yard, and the company of friends, is so uncomplicated and low-budget, which really helps put the focus on the story.

It does feature familiar actors, but I don't feel like they have been type-cast, and they just feel right for the roles. Actors include #TonyTodd (known for playing #Kurn on #StarTrek) and #JohnBillingsley (#DoctorPhlox on #STEnterprise), #RichardRiehle (who played #Batai on the excellent episode The Inner Light, but also Seamus in the Voyager holodeck episodes), which is kinda fitting as the story is based on a 1969 Star Trek episode called 'Requiem for Methuselah', which was also written by #JeromeBixby.
Other actors include #EllenAnnCrawford (known for her role as Nurse Lydia Wright on ER), #AlexisAnnThorpe (Days of Our Lives), #WilliamKatt (The Greatest American Hero), #DavidLeeSmith and #AnnikaPeterson.

  16. @ajroach42
oh, the 'low budget' made me remember an absolute classic: Jerome Bixby's Man From Earth.
A couple of teachers / professors gather in the house of their collegue, John Oldman, to say good-bye to him as he's packing up to leave the school and area.
During the evening he shares the notion that he's actually from the Holocene period and has lived through the ages without aging himself. They discuss whether this is possible, how it would affect such a person, as well as history, and how ideas develop throughout time.

Perhaps not quite the science fiction we've come to associate with the term sci-fi, but science fiction in my book nonetheless.

I love how it's basically only filmed in the living room of Oldman's house and just outside it, and how despite the low budget, it still has a couple of familiar faces, without relying on them to carry the film.

  18. Hmm, watching John Malkovich in a scene from Burn After Reading makes me wonder how much of a different film The Truman Show would've been if he had the role of Truman, rather than Jim Carrey.
