This camera is with me today, with Helios-103. I like Kiev/Contax so much.
On the one hand, Helios-103 is an excellent lens. There is no better lens for this camera.
On the other hand, it's a shame that the blades weren't blackened. In sunny weather, everything inside is simply flooded with reflections. The image suffers, the contrast disappears. 🤷
Unfortunately, all lenses from the late USSR suffered from this. To make cool optics and mechanics, but not blacken the diaphragm blades! Pity and sad, what can I say...

Kodak Is Selling Its Own Film Again for the First Time in a Decade

I normally stick to B&W for film, but I picked up an expired (by about 15years) roll of Kodak 200 film and to my surprise it came out prettty well. I think it's so bloody cold in the N of England it's like storing stuff in the fridge. This was scanned on a home made rig with an Olympus E-M1/Hi-res/90mm macro lens. Converted with the wonderful Grain2Pixel software.

Travel Plans and Parental Controls

Bellana came home late last night. Late enough that I was asleep. I woke up at 4:00am for some reason and checked the driveway and her car was there. Wonderful! My step daughter is home!

By 8:30am though we had dropped her off at the airport. She’s flying to Denver, meeting a friend, and then driving back to somewhere in North Carolina. From there she’s going to Atlanta and flying to Orlando where she will meet up with the rest of us for our Disney trip the week after next.

That’s a lot of traveling!

Her flight hasn’t boarded yet, but according to flightaware.com it is still on time. Safe travels, Bellana! We love you!

On an unrelated note, I think I need to set up parental controls on my computer. I think I need to block ebay. Yeah… I bought another camera last night. What the fuck, Robert? This one is a 35mm with autofocus. It has a 50mm lens too. Bonus! I still don’t think I will take any film on our vacation, but it is pretty clear my self imposed two month film hiatus isn’t going to last more than a few days. Oh well. I tried.

While we’re on the subject of film, I got a notification from the lab I sent the last batch of film to that it arrived. That was Thursday afternoon. I was hope hope hoping that I would receive word that the scans were available yesterday but I gots nuttin’. I doubt they’ll be working over the weekend, so hopefully early next week we’ll have the results. I’m optimistic that the five medium format rolls come out okay. Four of them might at least. One of them might be a smidge under exposed. I had the light meter app on my phone set wrong during one roll. Dumb ass. Everything else (hopefully) was free of user errors or dumb ass fuck ups. Fingers crossed.

A bit of a cheat really. This is a grainy film shot, with my OM-1m, but digitally adjusted to reduce mid tone contrast and smooth the fine detail out (i.e grain). This via Lightroom dehaze/clarity/detail sliders. Creates a nice ethereal effect in woodland shots.

The big trouble with shoooting film is that, unless you have devlopment capability, you have to post the film off and wait for it to come back. To save on postage I now do a couple of rolls at a time - so this one, which is from several weeks ago, has just gotten scanned. It's a view from Corby's crags in Northumberlad across to Coe Crags, all with a dusting of snow.

Took these beauties for a walk yesterday. Unfortunately, the metering on the #praktica seems off, so did a sort of overcast-cloudy around 8 or 11 sort of thing. It's a test roll anyway, half ruined trying to load it.

I'll be developing the Texas Leica film later, my test roll was a success (considering).
