  1. CW: Mentions, depictions, and rumination of: death, existence, and dread

Exhibited with other local Filipinx visual artists for the second time (the first time was last year), and I think since last year was such a hit, a lot more people showed up. The kind of people who really want to dig deep and exchange dialogue about the pieces. I was SWEATING y’all. There is a strange kind of vulnerability in art created with a more personal touch. #blackandwhiteart #artistnotes #filipinx #bycharina #MastoArt

  10. Growing up I saw some similarities between Chinese and Spanish food to #Filipinx #food and didn't fully understand why. But when I learned fragments of the colonial history of the #Philippines, then it clicked. I don't really know what indigenous Filipinx food is because I only know the dishes that are derived from Chinese, Spanish, Malaysian, etc. influences. This article was fascinating.

  17. CW: about "filipinx"

through mastodon, reddit, and tiktok, i've encountered so much more filipino community discourse, especially concerning the filipino american diaspora, and it still boggles my mind how the term "filipinx" creates such a stir.

this discourse takes place day in and day out, with people fawning over how terrible this lexical shift is and crying out about how awful and "cringe" filipino americans are for it.

  22. I had such a huge fear that if I had characters call each other Kuya or Ate in my plays without footnote translations, I'd never get produced. That may be a reason, but if the director and actors (whom are supposed to be Filipinx) don't know what I mean, then I don't need it produced by those powers that be.

Maybe it's also because I got tired of trying to explain to others my background to be accepted.
