  1. I've been doing a bunch of iterative test prints today (adjusting design for the correct fit) along with printing a bunch of boring utilitarian bits for my own use. So I've been using my oldest box of filament from my stash, because (a) don't let it get too old, and (b) it's the oldest because I haven't wanted to use it for anything to date, so why not get rid of it?

    This particular reel is "metallic gold" and it has an awful, fake-y gold sheen to it. It's ugly. Downright tacky.

    I'm feeling very Presidential as a result.

  2. I really hate when the #filament breaks just at the #extruder. And this time breaked because the #nozzle was completely occluded, apparently. So I have to dismantle the whole #HotEnd and #BowdenTube.
    Sometimes I hate #3Dprinting (or maybe it's my printer?)

  7. I've been 3D-printing for around five and a half years. So I'm not a rookie, but I just made a #rookie #mistake.

    I've spent the last couple of weeks making compartments and dividers and such for the toolboxes I take to the Repair Cafe. Lots of test #prints to check fits and footprints, full prints, changes to design based on lessons learned during use at the last cafe, etc. I've put around three kilograms of #filament through my printer in that time.

    Then, in the last couple days, I started having various problems. At first they only showed up on big prints - #adhesion and #curling, which I've had before when pushing the limits of my bed size. But prints seemed to be getting #sloppier, and I had a couple of spaghetti explosions.

    Tonight, I finally took the #hotend apart and looked at it closely - it's very difficult to do when the printer is fully assembled, because it's a #delta printer.

    Lo and behold, the nozzle appeared worn. And that can account for all the problems.

    I should have checked this sooner - but I've only been printing plain #PLA, nothing abrasive, so I didn't think of it. Lesson learned.

    Pardon the shitty photo from a cheap digital magnifier. The old #nozzle #orifice is about 1.5x the diameter of the new one - so 2.25x the area. No wonder plastic was going everywhere but where it should go!

    Seems to be printing *much* better with a new nozzle.

    Currently using Nuxt UI v4, and while it slaps, I'm kind of tired of so much plumbing for things that Filament PHP offers you out-of-the-box.

    Was a spectacular clear day but somewhat compromised by smoke from north western Canada (I'm on the far east coast!).

    Some #prominences are faintly visible. My solar processing still needs work :=)

  24. So, I felt I needed a #coaster for my #desk, but I wanted to stay true to the #hobby!

    I printed this on a #creality #CR6SE. 0.4mm nozzle for both pieces with Creality #ABS.

    I wanted a red filament that is a bit more of a candy or apple red, and this came out more of a peach color. Currently, I am not sure why because the actual #filament on the roll is more red. So it might be my temperature of 250°C that I am printing at. I will experiment with lower temps to see if the color is affected.

    I am able to print ABS easily because I have a 60°C heated #enclosure.
