  1. On May 19 we have Pim Elshoff talking about: Filament vs Inertia, and other bad ways to make UX decisions

    We have:
    - A place to meet other like-minded people
    - Free food (pizza, including vegan) and drinks provided by Suma Eindhoven
    - A @jetbrains license to raffle

  4. Dave Randolph, creator of PrintedSolid has resigned from its CEO position and departed. Prusa is now taking the lead.

Dave, if you read here, thank you very much for all the great and hard work. Thank you for having trusted my project and sold many Bear frame kits. I wish you all the best for the next steps 💫

  6. I'm still praising #FilamentPHP for being great for creating panels.

My only grief about it is the lack of particular components.

Sometimes you want to show alerts (not notifications), or timers, or else, and you have to make them yourself.

I wonder if there is a Filament PHP "components package" that solves this.

  8. It's true, PLA-CF is mostly useless, it's hard to find an advantage over regular PLA. "I built a thing" shows what happens in details with electron microscope and CT scanner as well as physical testing. Impressive images!

  10. DasFilament has launched a recycled PETG filament made from film production waste. This rPETG has the same properties as their standard PETG and has been specifically designed to produce unique colour changes. It is available in spools and refills.

  12. I wish there was something like Filament PHP but using Inertia.

Currently using Nuxt UI v4, and while it slaps, I'm kind of tired of so much plumbing for things that Filament PHP offers you out-of-the-box.

Yeah, I'm sill recommending Filament PHP.

  13. Lost the morning trying to make a #FilamentPHP Alert component.

Yes, the framework doesn't have that. Believe it or not.

Worse, the Color management is between asanine and undocumented. Basically, don't attempt and do everything as harcoded with Tailwind CSS as possible.

  19. #3DPrinting annoyance...

I have an #FLSun #V400 delta printer. A few upgrades, including to stock Klipper. I'm happy with it.

The issue: it's got a filament runout sensor up at the top of the print volume, right after the filament comes down through the top compartment of the printer, which houses the MCU and stepper motors. That works fine for detecting the end of a reel of filament.

But it's basically useless for detecting a filament break, because every break I've had has been between the sensor and the effector/hotend. The sensor happily indicates "filament good" while the hotend uses the remaining ~50cm of filament and then continues to print nothing, while cooking the leftover plastic in the hotend.

What do others do about this? Should I be moving the runout sensor to the effector, just on top of the extruder? Or I've seen what appear to be fancier sensors that detect filament movement, rather than being just a simple presence switch. Anyone have any experience with those?

I appreciate any thoughts from the more-experienced printers in the fedi. Thanks!

  23. Any tips on making #3dprinting #bioplastic #PHA by fermentation #diy at home?

I'm quite stuck in making #PLA at home from sourkraut, I'd need high purity sulfuric acid to actually get this lactic acid out of calcium lactate (egg shells + pickle juice). I might try using citric acid and heating that up. But if that doesn't work, PHA seems even better and more homebrewable.

Anyways, making the #fff #fdm #filament using no paleotechnic products. That would be the most #solarpunk thing ever.

  26. Shout-out to Atomic Filament, who has been my #3Dprinting #filament supplier for years. They'll be donating filament so that I can continue printing the BottleFlow portable showers.

  27. Super interesting and promising results on increasing tensing strength and modulus of PLA with cellulose. It is not only a biodegradable filler but also there are no risk of being potentially carcinogenic like carbon fibers. Looking forward to test such filament!

  31. WAS Founder Phil Harrington found something in the New England sky yesterday - the #Sun! Using his #Lunt 60mm H-Alpha scope in Long Island, you can see the #sunspot group visible to the right of the center. The adjacent regions are called #plages that are associated with concentrations of magnetic fields. The dark, sinuous feature below left of center is a #filament which are huge arcs of plasma in the Sun's atmosphere. They look dark because they are not as hot as the Sun's surface behind them.
