I've been 3D-printing for around five and a half years. So I'm not a rookie, but I just made a #rookie #mistake.
I've spent the last couple of weeks making compartments and dividers and such for the toolboxes I take to the Repair Cafe. Lots of test #prints to check fits and footprints, full prints, changes to design based on lessons learned during use at the last cafe, etc. I've put around three kilograms of #filament through my printer in that time.
Then, in the last couple days, I started having various problems. At first they only showed up on big prints - #adhesion and #curling, which I've had before when pushing the limits of my bed size. But prints seemed to be getting #sloppier, and I had a couple of spaghetti explosions.
Tonight, I finally took the #hotend apart and looked at it closely - it's very difficult to do when the printer is fully assembled, because it's a #delta printer.
Lo and behold, the nozzle appeared worn. And that can account for all the problems.
I should have checked this sooner - but I've only been printing plain #PLA, nothing abrasive, so I didn't think of it. Lesson learned.
Pardon the shitty photo from a cheap digital magnifier. The old #nozzle #orifice is about 1.5x the diameter of the new one - so 2.25x the area. No wonder plastic was going everywhere but where it should go!
Seems to be printing *much* better with a new nozzle.

Who needs fancy #filament spool holders? Not me 😅
Could not resist getting a shiny 2kg #Prusament Galaxy PLA spool during clearance.
Being well equipped with dryers and storage boxes for 1kg, this 125mm wide monster, provided a bit of a challenge at home.
Obviously the cardboard solution did not work well. The vibrating A1mini and holder kept pulling toward each other and filament ripped.
So I elongated an existing spool holder mod in OrcaSlicer and it works perfectly 🤓

Got some filament samples to play with. This is Glow Galaxy and as the name implies, it's a glow in the dark filament, except it's mostly transparent with glowing glitter inside. It comes in many colors, I got blue and green. Can't wait to make something stupid out of it! #3dprinting #filament

Does anyone know a brand of filaments that would have somewhat realistic array of skin toned PLA available? #3dprinting #filament

Today the new #3dprinter is supposed to be delivered. I just threw a spool of #filament into the dryer for a few comparison benchmark prints.
Oh, now that I have an #infraredcamera I probably should point it at the beds of both, just to see what's happening there.
Excited 😁

Ok, lets see how this ~10 year old #3Dprinting #filament thats completely brittle (stored unsealed at room temp) comes back to life.
Looks like typical spool dimensions changed since 2017 so only one spool fits inside one chamber of the filament dryer.

Favorite filaments right now?

With the softer TPU at hand, I wondered how well does a TPU print with a bowden feeder. Prusa slicer had ready made profiles for the Fiberlogy filaments I have, so I decided to experiment.
The first thing I learned that while there was a profile for the 30D FiberFlex TPU, it was not possible to use it in my printer, it just said it's not compatible. 40D however worked and it loaded just fine.
Print quality was okay. I don't know where I had gotten the misconception that bowden feeder + TPU aren't a thing.
-
Yep, this is fun thing to handle. Shore 30D TPU by Fiberlogy. #3dprinting #filament #tpu
-
Next up: let's see how the Snapmaker A350 eats this softer TPU. I've been searching for the softest TPU that's still reliable to print. Prusa's bowden feeder didn't want to even try this, but Snapmaker has direct feeder.
