I just watched that movie, probably the first time this century. And during that scene I thought, wow, that looks like a fighting game 😅

It’s at the same time funny and a bit sad the idea that SF6 brings “virtual arcade” as a feature of its online lobby.
Funny because it’s honestly a nice idea, but sad because it highlights how the arcade culture is pretty much dead or dying.
As much as I love the convenience of playing online from my couch, I kind of miss the experience of feeding a coin to the machine and having to make it worth, seeing how far I could go with whatever money I had on my pockets after going out, hoping that no one would bother showing up to challenge me… it was a different feeling.
As for the challenges, also that was a whole other experience . There were always people around and it was interesting to play against them. Not a random name online, but a whole person with a face you could see, who maybe would take a few seconds on the beginning of a round to try some new combo or even teach something they had learned over the last few days.
After a while you’d get to know the other regulars and knew when someone was coming your way if it meant a fun and balanced challenge, an easy win or an absolutely devastating humiliation.

It's been AGES since I've last played any fighting game, but one episode of "Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games" was enough to get me really on the fence about buying SF6.
Trying my best to convince me it's not worth it, but Amazon selling the game with Year 1 and Year 2 character packs for 30 euros isn't making my self-convincing any easier.

I recently became interested in The King of Fighters (KOF) series. I had heard about the series before, but somehow I never tried it. I've been playing KOF '98, 2002 and XV.
