flax seems dry. I have to be carefull because it might have been over-retted. But first try on a little bunch did result in something that looks like spinnable flax. What a mess though, I think 75% or more of that bunch is lost. Will try to spin that little bit 'from the lap' tomorrow. And will brake and hackle more tomorrow...

Husband said you might want to take a look at the flax because the grass is now overgrowing it. And it was, and the flax now looks really retted or maybe I should say rotted. I will let it dry now and brake it ssonish... #1qmLein #FiberFlaxProject

@Paws2Spindle there’s a flax project around flax and linen. You can buy the seeds from@the organisation and the send mails with video’s about what you need to do and how. You’re meant to make your own tools to prepare the flax and then later spin it into linen. I’m tooting the whole process under #FiberFlaxProject so you can look it up!

I started harvesting the flax but i think the seed heads are still too green. I’ll wait another few days and then harvest the rest #FiberFlaxProject #1qmlein

Discovered the first 2 flowers on the flax last Saturday. Weather is getting warmer and it has been raining a lot past weeks so I suspect the flax will do weel the coming days #1qmlein #FiberFlaxProject

On the to do list for today: ‘weaving’ a line inbetween the rows of flax because there’s thunder in the weather forecast. Not sure how to do it but i guess anything is better than nothing

Week 3. Weeded with a small putty knife that i sharpened on an old sharpening stone. I did kill some of the tiny flax plants i’m afraid. But the majority seem ok.

#FiberFlaxProject #1qmlein week 2. These pictures are from yesterday, 14 days after sowing the flax seeds. I put a net over the tiny plants last week but will need to take it off again because now the weeding starts. Not many weeds yesterday but when I took a look this morning I saw that the weeds are coming up!

Prepared the soil (2 sq meters) for the flax. I prepared another bed before but this one is in a sunnier spot. Very unlike me: I dug the soul 2 spades deep. As we say. I think it was necessary because there were a lot of weed roots deep down (field bindweed). Hope I got rid of it. Now my back aches but I’m happily stretched out on the sofa #oyeah

Got the first e-mail today regarding the fiber flax project. The seeds are sent off and should arrive this week. It’s preparing the soil this month and sowing in April. I’ll keep you all posted under this hashtag: #FiberFlaxProject
