So, I've played through #FinalFantasy IV The After Years 3D for mobile and have mixed feelings. The reviews I read love it, as they do love the original IV. However, I would say:
- It does quite a job in staying faithful to the conservative kitch and cliches of the original game
- filled to the brink with arbitrary gender references
- it is absourdly grindy, and you may prepare for walking back and forth, forced by the forced story, on all too known maps.
+ some characters did improve
+ but it is challenging and feels like your effort and strategy plays a role
+ old soundtrack
+ new, amazing villain and final dungeon theme
+ over this episode structured game you might start thinking: if the conclusion sucks, I will be so mad. But the conclusion is superb. I loved it. I would be so glad if the game was just its final chapter.
Now, off to FF5 (love it) pixel remaster. They released 1-6 for mobile and you might want to check them out. They redid all the soundtracks. Mostly improving.
