Having rewatched the story cutscenes of #FinalFantasy12 compressed together without the gameplay, the plot actually now makes much more sense and feels somewhat more complete.
The big issues with the game's storytelling is that important factions and characters get mentioned once in passing every 10 hours, which makes it hard to keep track of who is who and who did what. And there is not really a plot that is developing through the game. It's all just exposition dumps.

Managed to find a copy of #FinalFantasyXII2: Revenant Wings for the #DS today, with the original instructions and in a box. Only $35 too, so good score in my book. Never got to play it originally, so this might push me to finally finish #FF12.

The story of Final Fantasy 12 feels like the script got blown away by the wind and they were only able to recover 30% of the pages, but decided to just go with that.
The stories of FF10 and FF13 weren't complex either, but this is much worse than those two.

CW: FF12 story spoiler? I have no clue.
I'm struggling quite a bit with the plot of #FF12 at this point.
What I think is going on, but this might be my imagination filling the huge blanks:
Empire A invades and occupies the Kingdom to get a buffer zone for a war with Empire B.
The prince of Empire A wants to prevent the war, and implies the queen gets the Kingdom back if she helps him and helater becomes Emperor.Which apparently will be accomplished by getting magic nukes.

As has been the case with Final Fantasy 10 and 13, now that I am 25 hours! into #FF12, the game is finally starting to demand some kind of effort from me to win fights, instead of playing itself or only requiring me to press X every three seconds.
Even if this is meant to be a game series accessible to kids by gradually introducing all the mechanics, playing half to two thirds of a game before you get to any challenge is ridiculous.

Of all the characters in #FinalFantasy12, I didn't expect Fran to be the one I want to know more about the most.
Who is she?!
She seems to be the one who knows the most about what's going on. While everyone else, except maybe Balthier, seems to be barely aware that something's going on in the first place.
(I also have no clue what's going on anymore. Exposition is another thing this game handles very poorly.)

Not sure if Final Fantasy 12 is really, really easy, or if I am ridiculously overlevelled without even trying.
In boss fights, I do have to watch my characters HP and occasionally use a potion, but in regular combat the game entirely plays itself.

CW: Now Final Fantasy 12 is getting interesting!
The part about rescuing the ladies from the Leviathan gets really dull storywise. I got bored with the game last time I played, and I was really bored with the story this time as well.
But continuing after that, there's a cutscene of the Emperor, whose sons both seem very friendly, sensible, and with peaceful intentions, worrying that after his death, they will try to kill each other for the throne.
Now I want to know more!

10 hours into #FinalFantasy12, I have now escaped the airship Leviathan.
I am pretty sure this is how far I got when I first played this game six years ago. And I can see why I forgot about it after this. Even this far into the game, I still don't have anything to do in battle. Move the active character through the dungeons and watch the fights play out by themselves.
I remember FF10 and FF13 also taking way too long before combat becomes interesting, so there's still hope.

Playing some more Final Fantasy 12 on PS4, and it's a really strange experience.
Visually, it looks great. Textures and lighting are wonderful. But everything else is really jank. And I think it would have been on PS2 as well. Areas are tiny, and character draw distance is like 20 meters. The PS2 could run Shadow of the Colossus and Good of War 2.

Graficamente Final Fantasy XII mi lascia a bocca aperta: i volti dei personaggi sono strabilianti con delle espressioni credibili e sguardi profondi, lo shot è stato fatto da #PCSX2 a 720p.
Il character design mi ricorda un po' Vagrant Story, altro titolo incredibilmente bello, ma un po' sottovalutato, per PS1. -
