“Bis aufs Blut” (Blood and Guts in High School) by Kathy Acker is a radical, experimental novel that was first published in the 1980s and was censored in Germany for a long time. The book tells the drastic, disturbing story of 13-year-old Janey, who grows up in a world marked by violence, sexuality, incest, and oppression. Acker relentlessly shows how female identity and sexuality are shaped, exploited, and destroyed in a society dominated by male power.
