    works passably on Linux and with youtube tutorials (thanks Indian- and Polish-accent guys) I could actually simulate twisting a rod and do experiments. Easy to use for a total newb!

    That informs me where to place strain gauges for one of my projects.

    В предыдущей статье "Облако своими руками для расчета пространственных стержней методом конечных элементов на Node js, React js и Three js" представлен краткий обзор облачного SPA приложения ammonit3d по моделированию пространственных стержневых систем (ферм, балок, рамных и связевых конструкций, опор ЛЭП) методом конечных элементов с численно-аналитическим решением для каждого конечного элемента, в основе которого математическая модель Эйлера-Бернулли - механическая модель упругой балки или стержня длиной L с заданной изгибной жёсткостью EJ на которую действуют сосредоточенная сила F или момент M, а также распределённая сила q(x) или момент m(x) по длине стержня, продольная ось которого x1, вертикальная x2 проходит через начало стержня и x3 направлена на нас из точки пересечения x1, x2. Полагая сечения плоскими до и после изгиба при одноосном деформированном состоянии в рамках краевой задачи линейной теории упругости, уравнение упругой оси стержня можно представить в виде обыкновенного неоднородного дифференциального уравнения 4-го порядка:

  9. @lwilde and I are currently planning to build a magnetron sputter setup. Since i learned that #freecad also is includes #FEM functions I want to try and model the magnetic field of the magnetron. I managed to get very simple geometries to work but quickly got stuck on more involved once.

    Does someone know a nice guide which explains how to properly design 2D geometry for FEM simulation. Or maybe can explain to me what the operation in the red circle is, which is used in the examples?

  11. If one has a linear-elastic material in mind, one would assume this works for any kind of finite element simulations. In case of large rotations and large strains, "linear" is not unique. There are many different implementations of linear-elastic materials. Beside the mathematical details, a cube, rotated by 90° and stretched to a factor of 2, will show different deformations. You'll see a small-strain, Total-Lagrange (Saint-Venant Kirchhoff material) and the co-rotated framework as well as a compressible Neo-Hookean material model formulation.

    Reminder: don't use small-strain linear-elastic material formulations in simulations where large rotations occur - just because the strains are "small".

  12. idk what #fem #trans #person needs to hear this but you should get a #winter skirt. get a thick long wool skirt. or else you will find yourself with only thin warm weather skirts and then be either freezing cold or dysphoric come winter. do not do that to yourself. invest in a heavy warm skirt and then you can frolic through the snow in style and comfort

    These kinds of works, with validation against experimental results, is always a challenging task, even for the simpler problems. Lab experiments and numerical simulations have each their own set of problems that need to be addressed, and the people working on the two sides of the fence often have a very different perspective on what should be considered trivial and not worth measuring, and what is instead crucial to the success of the experiment.

    Getting these two sides to talk to each other successfully is no walk in the park, and I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to Vito Zago, who has gone to incredible lengths both during the “science making” to make things work out, and during the manuscript submission and review process, a nearly Sisyphean task in itself.

    Same for the "process signal, but *fast*" people; top of my head, we've got @rygorous , but he's more on the "fast" than on the signals side. We have @mkretz who could talk about C++ SIMD stuff, but my guess: he'd prefer to talk in a room full of compileristas?
    Are #EMerge #FEM/#Heavi people here? It'd seem #Sionna gets a lot of well-deserved attention combing physics+signals, but it's not the sole toolkit!
