Added a new reader view type that shows a list of blog posts ordered by date without grouping them by site like it does by default.

The default reader is now called the Cat reader and the new one is the Swan reader.

The Cat reader looks similar to FraidyCat and RAD Reader, sections per website with three posts per site (or whichever value you configure)

The Swan reader shows just a continuos list of posts. It still shows three posts per blog but instead of grouping them into sections, it is a continuous list ordered by date.

Both views are available from the toolbar menu, use what you feel like atm.

I worked on a new feat on my blog #BurgeonLab: a #XSL stylesheet for XML content (#rss #atom #feeds). It was easy in #Hugo—just a `static/style.xsl` and add `{{- printf "<?xml-stylesheet href=\"/style.xsl\" type=\"text/xsl\"?>" | safeHTML -}}`.

Going to try to self host an RSS aggregator again.

My previous attempts through NextCloud and WordPress both pettered out because of parsing errors.

Both depended on SimplePie which choked on multilingual content.

This happened when an English language publisher used a loan word, or quoted someone with for example _é_ in name.

I didn’t have the bandwidth to hunt down the issue at the time, and kind of want something a bit more robust.

Open to self hosted suggestions 🙏

https://capyreader.com by @_jocmp is a new and open source #feedreader. It's been in development for a while and now it is good enough that I switched to it from FocusReader's paid version. CapyReader doesn't have some fancy features that FocusReader does, but that's okay, I didn't use them anyway. I miss some features like jumping to a feed from list of entries or sorting #feeds by number of unreads, but that's manageable. Hopefully, CapyReader will get these features and more as it matures. It is going to be my recommended feed reader on #Android from now.

Neues Jahr - neue Feeds:

1. Vor allem die lange Liste entrümpeln - viele Feeds sind nicht mehr aktiv.

2. Weniger ist mehr. Lieber ein paar wirklich gute, die ich dann auch regelmäßig lese - und nicht 965 Stück, die in Form von Karteileichen im Reader bleiben.

3. Dazu eine Rubrik: "Preview", wenn ich einen neuen Feed entdecke: Erst einmal speichern, nach einer Woche entscheiden, ober er in eine permanente Rubrik wandert oder gelöscht wird.

Ich habe ja berichtet, dass ich FreshRSS als zentralen Feed-Hub auf meinem Webspace laufen habe. Meist scrolle ich auf dem iPad durch die Artikel (dort: Reeder classic).
Auf dem Desktop finde ich Newsflash recht angenehm. Der kann via Api ebenfalls auf FreshRSS zugreifen:

Welchen #Feedreader nimmt man denn aktuell für #linux? Will's standalone haben, nicht in Browser oder Mail-Client.

Nutze bisher #liferea, aber der zickt jetzt rum bei einer einfachen HTTP-Basic Authentifizierung. Vielleicht Zeit, nach 15+ Jahren mal was neues auszuprobieren.

Which terminal/console/tui feed reader that can import OPML do you use and recommend?

I have tried:

- nom[0]: segfaults occasionally, messes up links when line-breaking them
- tuifeed[1]: doesn't display any articles it's downloaded
