  1. James Denney, Scottish minister, writes on the parable of Lazarus & the Rich Man (Luke 16:19-31). The rich man went to hell for not aiding a poor person at his doorstep. This teaches that the rich need the poor, to show they’re humane. Humanity enriches our lives.

Today, are we more concerned about using the state to sweep away any poor persons from our midst? Would we have no opportunities to exercise humanity?

How can you enrich your life?

  2. Caspar Olevian co-wrote the Heidelberg Catechism. One who has heard of God’s mercy would have “fear” to do anyone wrong, or unjustly oppressed them. God working in us, will make us like Him, and turn us away from all hardness of heart and inhumanity.

Some may have met Christians who seem to teach a hardness of heart. This does not prove Olevian wrong.

How can you reflect on God’s mercy as a motivation to humanity?
