@perjakobsen Mastodon is just an(other) implementation of ActivityPub protocol and the ActivityStreams language.
On that level there is no limitation. But mastodon has one.
This is the cool thing about #feediverse you not could only use your mastodon user to subscribe to other mastodon servers users, but also f.e. follow a peertube or friendica account. As f.e. friendica has its root in beeing a (micro)blogging service, it might have no limit.

(i) We introduce Fedivertex, a large and diverse graph dataset based on the Fediverse. More precisely, our dataset encompasses seven Fediverse platforms, resulting in 182 graphs: 13 different graphs each with a sequence of 14 snapshots obtained through weekly web crawls over a period of three months.
(ii) We provide a Python package, fedivertex, available through PyPI, to easily access and use our dataset. The package includes built-in preprocessing tools to download and prepare the graphs for machine learning tasks. We demonstrate its usefulness by benchmarking several existing decentralized learning algorithms.
(iii) We formalize a novel graph analysis task: defederation prediction, which aims to predict which edges or nodes will be removed from the graph at the next iteration, and we propose baselines for this task.https://arxiv.org/html/2505.20882v1#S3

Bin mittlerweile schon wieder so lange im #feediverse dass mir die UIs von BigTech Social Media Platformen nur noch absurd erscheint. Das sieht aus wie 1990er Jahre Privat-TV gepaart mit Geocities auf Steroiden - also sowas wie komplett wahnsinniger Quatsch.

Habt ihr schonmal den tag #mastodown gesehen? Ich auch nicht... das ist einer der Punkte - maximal hüstelt meine Instanz mal. Sie hat afaik noch nicht mal nen Site Reliablity Engineer... ja geht ... das ist einer der Punkt #feediverse

Was ich an diesem #feediverse Dings so mag ist, dass ich befürchtet hatte dieses "föderierte Gefühl" sei zusammen mit ihren Technologien UUCP, ZConnect, Maustausch et al irgendwann Ende der 1990er gestorben (BGP spricht der Maurermeister von Nebenan ja idr nicht).... Und nun gibt es imo doch noch Hoffnung dass die nächsten Generationen diese "sozial-kybernetischen Tensoren" die auf vernetzten Computer Netzwerken entstehen können, intuitiv erfahren lernen können.

Feels somewhat strange that I shifted completely from #haskell to #rustlang at work, as well as for most private toy projects.
On the other hand I still following the development and esp. enjoy reading about #haskell beginners "click moments" here in #feediverse ... Not to be meant "arrogant" in anyway, but feels like beeing an older Jedi and seeing when the force becomes 💪 in young padawans :)

Viele Menschen versuchen derzeit sich von grossen Anbietern zu lösen. Auch wir haben uns vor Jahren von Twitter getrennt und auf #Mastodon eine gut funktionierende Alternative gefunden. Kurz darauf haben wir unter BBSindex.TV unser eigenes Videoarchiv gegründet.
Inzwischen ist das Feediverse weiter gewachsen und bietet eine solide Grundlage mit #PeerTube als Videoplattform an. Wir haben uns deshalb bei #MakerTube um einen Kanal beworben und diesen unter https://makertube.net/@bbsindex einrichten dürfen. Aktuell laden wir immer mal wieder unseren Content dort hoch.
Um nicht alles mit unseren Videos in der Liste was es neues gibt zu fluten laden wir nicht alles auf einmal dort hoch. Derzeit pushen wir unseren #Amiga Content nachdem wir bereits unsere #BBS Tutorial Videos dort veröffentlicht haben.
Das bedeutet nicht das wir von der grossen Plattform verschwinden oder unser Videoarchiv einstellen. Wir wollen lediglich Euch alternativen anbieten das Ihr eine bessere Auswahl habt wo Ihr Content anschaut.
